The Groshong catheter (GC) is commonly used as a peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC), and the external jugular vein (EJV) is not a common route for central venous access (CVA). Therefore, external jugular venous catheterization (EJVC) using a GC is rare. However, our experience has shown that this procedure is safe and simple for CVA. ⋯ Our experience demonstrates that EJVC using the GC is acceptable for CVA.

To investigate the impact of using paclitaxel in chemoradiation on locally advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) treated with or without surgery. ⋯ Both surgery and the use of paclitaxel-based chemoradiation may improve local disease control. Future randomized trials should integrate paclitaxel into definitive chemoradiation.

Comparative Study Clinical Trial
Prospective trial of intensive decongestive physiotherapy for upper extremity lymphedema.
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of kinesiophobia, quality of life, and home exercise programs on women with upper extremity lymphedema. ⋯ In upper extremity lymphedema, the use of complex physiotherapy programs (CDP) can decrease edema and fear of activity, and increase the quality of life.

Case Reports
"Spontaneous," delayed colon and rectal anastomotic complications associated with bevacizumab therapy.
Bevacizumab, a humanized monoclonal antibody used to treat recurrent and metastatic colorectal cancer, targets the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) molecule. It is hypothesized that bevacizumab works by both depriving tumors of the neovascularity they require to grow, and by improving local delivery of chemotherapy through alterations of tumor vasculature permeability and Starling forces. Complications of bevacizumab treatment include bowel ischemia and perforation, but to date, these complications have only rarely been described as occurring at the site of presumably healed anastomoses following surgery. ⋯ Contributing factors may include anastomotic leak at the time of the original operation and history of anastomotic irradiation. Clinicians treating patients who receive bevacizumab following colectomy for colorectal cancer should be aware of this possible life-threatening complication. These findings may also be relevant to the design of trials of the use of bevacizumab for the postoperative adjuvant treatment of patients with colorectal cancer.

We previously showed that previous chemotherapy and immediate breast reconstruction were associated with an increased risk of surgical site infection (SSI) in patients undergoing breast cancer surgery. The present before-after study evaluated a preventive strategy for high-risk patients. ⋯ These results showed that antibiotic prophylaxis is beneficial for patients at high-risk of WI after breast cancer surgery. Randomized controlled trials should now confirm these findings.
