We reviewed our institution's experience treating patients with ductal carcinoma-in-situ (DCIS) with breast-conserving therapy (BCT) to help define the interrelationship between excision volume, margin status, and tumor size with local recurrence. ⋯ These findings suggest that the success of BCT is directly related to the degree of surgical removal of DCIS and that margin status alone may be suboptimal in defining excision adequacy.

The value of secondary cytoreductive surgery is still controversial, especially in patients with recurrent epithelial ovarian cancer. In this retrospective study, we investigated the effect on survival of secondary cytoreduction for recurrent disease and variables influencing redebulking surgical outcome. ⋯ Secondary cytoreductive surgery significantly lengthened survival for patients with recurrent epithelial ovarian cancer. Patients with ascites at disease recurrence, however, were not suitable for aggressive secondary surgery, and redebulking surgery for those with residual disease of >1.0 cm after primary operation should be considered prudently.

Evaluate the efficacy and toxicity of alternating intravesical instillation of Bacillus Calmette-Guerin(BCG) and Interferon alpha2-b (IFN) in the treatment and prevention of recurrence of superficial transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) of the urinary bladder. ⋯ Alternating intravesical BCG and IFN is effective and well tolerated therapy for superficial TCC of urinary bladder.
