Problematic Internet use/ Internet addiction (IA) has gained the attention of mental health professionals recently and studies have found that medical professionals are not immune to IA with prevalence rate ranging from 2.8 to 8%. Few studies from India have also reported high rates of IA among medical students. The term 'Problematic internet use' is being increasing used nowadays in place of IA as it signifies a better terminology than the word 'addiction' per se. However, there is lack of information among resident doctors. ⋯ The present study suggests that about 8.24% of resident doctors have Problematic internet use/IA. Problematic internet use/IA is associated with presence of higher level of depressive symptoms, perceived stress and burn out. Further, Problematic internet use/IA is also associated with higher likelihood of facing violence in the hands of patients and their caregivers.

Pattern of alcohol use and its related complications is determined by multiple factors. We studied the effects of sudden ban of alcohol during elections in a state of India. We found that unexpected election bans could lead to severe complications in alcohol dependent individuals. Impact of sudden policy changes needs to be thought prior to implementation.

The Indian National Mental Health Survey (NMHS) of 2015-2016 has estimated 13.7% lifetime and 10.6% point prevalence for mental illnesses. It has identified that the treatment gap for mental illnesses ranges between 70% and 92%. Tele-Psychiatric consultations could be an alternative and innovative approach to bridge this gap in low resource settings. ⋯ Collaborative tele-psychiatric consultations to district hospitals from an academic tertiary care hospital can be feasible and are likely to benefit patients from rural areas. There is a need for more studies to elucidate their acceptability by patients, caregivers and professionals.

The use of smokeless tobacco (SLT) is very common in India and leads to well established adverse health effects, particularly oral cancers. ⋯ SLT cessation efforts in the country must take cognizance of user perspectives and focus on strategies for demand reduction in all populations, including adolescents. Health care providers need to be trained in SLT cessation.

Neurosyphilis has various clinical manifestations depending upon the stage of illness. However, it is not readily considered a differential diagnosis in early onset dementia and behavioral disturbances. This case report describes a patient presenting with disorganized behavior and later diagnosed with dementia in which neurosyphilis was found causative. This is followed by a pragmatic review of the diagnosis and treatment options for neurosyphilis.
