Comparative StudyModified 2016 American College of Rheumatology Fibromyalgia Criteria, the Analgesic, Anesthetic, and Addiction Clinical Trial Translations Innovations Opportunities and Networks-American Pain Society Pain Taxonomy, and the Prevalence of Fibromyalgia.
To study the prevalence of fibromyalgia (FM) in the general population according to a 2016 modification of the American College of Rheumatology criteria (FM 2016) and the Analgesic, Anesthetic, and Addiction Clinical Trial Translations Innovations Opportunities and Networks-American Pain Society pain taxonomy criteria (AAPT), and to compare diagnostic and clinical variables between the criteria sets. ⋯ The prevalence of FM in the German general population is 73% greater using the AAPT criteria than the FM 2016 criteria. The AAPT criteria select individuals with less symptom severity and fewer pain sites. The FM 2016 criteria, but not the AAPT criteria, provide a general severity measure for FM.

Multicenter Study Observational StudyKnee Osteoarthritis, Potential Mediators, and Risk of All-Cause Mortality: Data From the Osteoarthritis Initiative.

Multicenter StudyImpact of Diabetes Mellitus on Knee Osteoarthritis Pain and Physical and Mental Status: Data From the Osteoarthritis Initiative.
Diabetes mellitus (DM) appears to increase osteoarthritic knee pain, which may be related to greater adiposity and more advanced disease status often observed in individuals with osteoarthritis (OA) and DM. We aimed to assess whether OA knee pain and health status are worse in individuals with OA and DM, independent of these potential confounders. ⋯ Individuals with knee OA experience on average higher pain intensity and a worse physical and mental health status if they have DM. Linear regression models show that DM is a risk factor for higher pain, in addition to and independent of greater BMI and radiographic OA severity.

Positive Psychological Factors and Impairment in Rheumatic and Musculoskeletal Disease: Do Psychopathology and Sleep Quality Explain the Linkage?
Little is known about potential mechanisms of action linking protective positive psychological variables and functional disability in patients with rheumatic and musculoskeletal disease. The present study was undertaken to examine symptoms of psychopathology, including stress, depression, anxiety, and sleep quality, as serial mediators of the association between gratitude, self-compassion, self-forgiveness, and functional impairment. ⋯ Positive psychological factors exert a beneficial downstream effect on mental well-being, sleep health, and health-related functional impairment. Therapeutic promotion of gratitude, self-compassion, and self-forgiveness may improve mental and physical health in patients with rheumatic and musculoskeletal disease.
