Posterior wall fractures, which are the most common type of acetabulum fracture, are frequently accompanied with an avulsion tear of the posterior labral root as well as hip dislocation due to the injury mechanism. In the treatment of these fractures with an avulsed posterior labral root attached to posterior wall fragment, the use of a suture anchor can induce indirect reduction of a posterior wall fragment as well as direct repair of a labral root tear simultaneously. We describe the simple and efficient technique using a suture anchor in posterior wall acetabular fractures and surgical outcomes of two cases treated with this technique.

Iatrogenic vascular complications following intramedullary nailing of hip fractures is a rare occurrence. We describe a case report of injury to the profunda femoris artery due to a displaced lesser trochanteric fragment following ambulation. We discuss the mechanism of arterial injury and associated signs in addition to possible preventative strategies.

In a cross-sectional study, 291 out of 500 veterans with war-related bilateral lower limb amputations from Iran-Iraq war (1980-1988) accepted to participate in our study. Information related to amputees and amputated limbs were gathered and a Persian version of the Medical Outcomes Study Short Form 36 (SF-36) was filled. To evaluate the effect of amputation level on health related quality of life, we classified patients to seven types according to the functional remainder of major joints (ankles, knees, hips). 97% of patients were male and the average age at the time of injury was 20 years. ⋯ Except Energy/Fatigue domain, all the other domains were different from normal population. There was not any significant statistical correlation between amputation type and any domain of the SF-36. Type 6 amputees showed an increase in physical health domains compared with former types.

Commercially available gaming systems (CAGS) such as the Wii Balance Board (WBB) and Microsoft Xbox with Kinect (Xbox Kinect) are increasingly used as balance training and rehabilitation tools. The purpose of this review was to answer the question, "Are commercially available gaming systems valid and reliable instruments for use as clinical diagnostic and functional assessment tools in orthopaedic settings?" and provide a summary of relevant studies, identify their strengths and weaknesses, and generate conclusions regarding general validity/reliability of WBB and Xbox Kinect in orthopaedics. ⋯ Currently it is not possible to make a universal generalization about the clinical utility of CAGS in the field of orthopaedics. However, there is evidence to support using the WBB and the Xbox Kinect as tools to obtain reliable and valid COP measurements. The Wii Fit Game may specifically provide reliable and valid measurements for predicting fall risk.

Significance of clinical examination, CT and MRI scan in the diagnosis of posterior pelvic ring fractures.
Patients with a fracture in the anterior pelvic ring often simultaneously demonstrate pain in the posterior pelvic ring. The aim of the present prospective study was to assess the sensitivity of CT, MRI and clinical examination in the detection of fractures in the posterior pelvic ring in patients with fractures of the anterior pelvic ring diagnosed in conventional radiographs. ⋯ The significance of both, clinical examination and CT was confirmed in the detection of fractures in the posterior pelvic ring. MRI examination of the pelvis however, was found to be superior in detecting undislocated fractures in a cohort of patients with a high incidence of osteoporosis. Using MRI may be beneficial in select cases, especially when reduced bone density is suspected.
