Forearm fractures are the most frequent long bone fractures in children. There have been many reports of differences in leg length due to overgrowth in lower extremity fractures. However, reports of such overgrowth in fractures of the upper extremity are rare. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between angulation and overgrowth in pediatric radius fractures. We hypothesized that more angular deformation of the fracture would result in a periosteal transection and more overgrowth. ⋯ Level IV, Retrospective study.

To determine the influence of gap distance and its location on clinical and radiological outcomes in patients with acute rupture of Tendo-Achilles (TA) treated non-operatively with functional rehabilitation. ⋯ The initial gap distance had no relationship with any of the measured clinical outcomes at the final follow up. The distance of the gap from the enthesis, however, may carry a greater prognostic value following non-operative treatment of Achilles tendon injuries.

The information on firearm- or explosive-related extremity injuries in children is very limited. Reports of segmental bone loss due to these types of fractures are even rarer and the treatment remains a problem. There has been no report of distraction osteogenesis with limb reconstruction system (LRS) specifically in children. We evaluated the treatment results of Gustilo-Anderson type 3 open fractures with segmental bone loss due to firearm injuries by distraction osteogenesis performed with LRS in skeletally immature patients. ⋯ LRS provides a good treatment choice for children with fractures with segmental bone loss due to firearm injuries. It also provides easy access to the wound with its monolateral construction.

In this study, we evaluated the biomechanical characteristics of different locations of medial fixation strategies in double-plate osteosynthesis for fixing AO/ASIF type 33-C2 femoral fractures by means of finite element analysis. ⋯ The MSP+LISS model showed better biomechanical performance than the double-plate models, which might be an effective solution for the treatment of comminuted distal femur fractures.

To evaluate the feasibility and clinical outcomes of tension-band wiring through a single cannulated screw combined with two suture anchors in treating inferior pole fracture of the patella. ⋯ For inferior pole fracture of the patella, tension-band wiring through a single cannulated screw combined with suture anchors can offer sufficient fixation stability to achieve a satisfactory clinical outcome with reduced operational complexity; this procedure should be recommended in clinical practice.
