The increasing socioeconomic need for optimal treatment of hip fractures in combination with the high diversity of available implants has raised numerous biomechanical questions. This study aims to provide a comprehensive overview of biomechanical research on the treatment of intertrochanteric fractures using cephalomedullary devices. ⋯ This scoping review highlights the need for standardization in biomechanical studies on intertrochanteric fractures to ensure reliable and comparable results. Strategies such as avoiding varus, maintaining a sufficient tip-apex-distance, cement augmentation, and optimizing lesser trochanteric osteosynthesis enhance construct stability. Synthetic alternatives may offer advantages over cadaveric bone. Further research and meta-analyses are required to establish standardized protocols and enhance reliability.

A scoping review of models of care for the management of older trauma patients.
The number of older people hospitalised with major trauma is rapidly increasing. New models of care have emerged, such as co-management, and trauma centres dedicated to delivering geriatric trauma care. The aim of this scoping review was to explore in-hospital models of care for older adults who experience physical trauma. ⋯ Given the variability in patient characteristics and capabilities of health services, models of care need to be matched to the local profile of older trauma patients. However, some standards should be incorporated into a care model, including identifying goals of care, medication review and follow up post-discharge.

Telephone consult has become the accepted discharge method for virtual fracture clinic (VFC) within the United Kingdom. Telephone consultations are time consuming; many orthopaedic units lack the resources and staff to deliver large numbers of daily telephone consultations which may block the development of an effective VFC. Our study aim was to validate a letter only VFC discharge process for safety and efficacy. ⋯ Discharging letters detailed rehabilitation and symptom resolution timeframes. Our approach did not result in high return rates or adverse events (unexpected operations) in comparison to published traditional telephone discharge VFC. Units with limited staffing resources wishing to implement a VFC could safely adopt this approach as an alternative to telephone discharge.

Several methods have been used to treat pediatric Jones fractures, but there has been no consensus about the optimum method. The purposes of this study were to compare the clinical outcomes between compression screw and non-weight-bearing techniques used in pediatric Jones fractures and clarify the most suitable treatment option for this population. ⋯ Level III.

National parks in the United States experience a significant number of annual visits, and with increasing popularity, injuries are expected to rise. This study aims to assess fatal injuries in the top ten most visited U.S. national parks from 2013 to 2022 to improve current policies and develop effective prevention strategies. ⋯ This study found the highest number of total injuries occurring in summer; however, winter presented a higher risk per visitor. Slips and falls were the most common cause of injuries, requiring targeted safety measures. Males in the 35-44 age group reported the highest fatality rates. These findings highlight the necessity for improved monitoring and reporting to better understand injury causes and formulate specific, evidence-based policies for prevention.
