Project Safe Neighborhoods: Dallas (PSND) is part of a national initiative that partners federal, state, and local stakeholders and law enforcement to reduce violent crime, especially firearm violence, in select communities. The authors' hospital is located centrally in PSND's target areas, and the trauma center's service area fully covers the target areas. This cohort study evaluated PSND's effectiveness by examining if PSND's April 2018 launch was associated with decreases in (1) violent crime or (2) the rate of patients presenting with firearm and assaultive injuries. ⋯ Results suggest PSND was ineffective. Criminal activity in the target area was not reduced relative to its pre-intervention levels or relative to the non-target areas. Offenders may have moved outside the target areas to evade increased scrutiny. Additionally, rates of firearm and assaultive injuries increased. As trusted third parties, trauma centers should consider evaluating local crime and injury prevention programs for effectiveness.

The gold standard treatment for indirect traumatic optic neuropathy (ITON) has not yet been conclusively established, and it is essential to gain an understanding of visual prognosis and to counsel patients regarding the predictive risk factors of poor visual outcomes. Currently, there is limited information regarding ITON in Thai populations; therefore, this study aimed to determine the risk factors of poor visual outcome in patients with this condition. ⋯ No clear benefit was found of intravenous glucocorticoids in treatment of ITON. Patients aged 40 years or more and/or with poor baseline visual status should be advised that they are at increased risk of poor final visual outcomes.

Sacral alar-iliac screws (SAISs) have been used for sacroiliac joint and are superiority to traditional sacroiliac screws (SISs) in patients with low bone density. The aim of this study was to investigate the operation safety and biomechanical stability of the SIS, transsacral-transiliac screw (TSTIS), S1AIS and S2AIS in the treatment of sacroiliac joint in simulated models of low bone density. ⋯ The stability of S1AIS and S2AIS is similar, both stronger than that of SIS and TSTIS, which have shorter lengths of the screw trajectories on the ilium side. However, the safety zone of S2AIS at the insertion point is smaller than that of S1AIS. Therefore, considering both safety and stability, S1AIS is the preferred choice for fixation of sacroiliac joint dislocation in simulated models of low bone density.

Work-related musculoskeletal (MSK) injuries are a major contributor to morbidity worldwide and frequently result in hospitalisation. Hospital complications are common, costly, and largely preventable, but relevant data is required to address this. This study aimed to identify the incidence and factors associated with in-hospital complications of work-related MSK injuries. ⋯ This study identified patient, injury and hospital-related characteristics associated with in-hospital complications of work-related MSK injuries for informing prevention strategies and risk estimation by hospital staff and workers' compensation schemes. The results demonstrate a sizable rate of complications given the relatively young and healthy study population.
