Thigh compartment syndrome (TCS) is a rare surgical emergency associated with a high risk of morbidity with mortality rates as high as 47 %. There is sparse literature discussing the management as well as outcomes of these injuries. The purpose of this study is to review a consecutive series of patients presenting to a single urban Level 1 trauma center with TCS to identify injury characteristics, clinical presentation, and outcomes associated with this injury. ⋯ TCS is a rare and life-threatening injury associated with significant morbidity. Despite rapid diagnosis and fasciotomy, the majority of the patients have prolonged hospital courses, ICU lengths of stay, and significant costs of treatment. Providers can reference the outcomes reported in this study when caring for TCS patients.

Motorcycle-related crashes before and during the COVID-19 pandemic: A comparative retrospective observational study from the Middle East.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a boom in the delivery sector, with a significant increase in the demand and number of motorcycle delivery drivers in Qatar, which made them vulnerable to injury. We aimed to evaluate the incidence, pattern, and outcome of patients injured by motorcycle-related crashes (MCC) before and during the pandemic. ⋯ The overall burden of MCC increased during the pandemic, and the frequency of MCC involving commercial drivers surged significantly during the pandemic period as opposed to the non-work MCC, which predominated in the pre-pandemic period. Work-related MCCs were more frequent among younger age groups, mainly involving South Asians with frequent accidents in the evening time. However, recreation-related MCCs occurred more frequently at midnight, and victims were non-compliant with the protective gear. Furthermore, there is a need for prospective studies to examine the broader scope of risk factors that are associated with the work-related MCC, especially involving food deliveries, and for focused safety programs for motorcycle delivery drivers and recreational motorcyclists.

Our primary aim of the study was to assess the results of a treatment protocol for aseptic femoral shaft nonunion treated by three techniques - Exchange Nailing (EN), Plate Augmentation (PA), and Exchange Nailing combined with Plate augmentation (NP). The secondary objective was to assess the radiological outcome, duration of surgery (DOS) and need for blood transfusion (BT) in all the three groups. ⋯ IV.

To analyze the effects of the angle between dynamic hip screw (DHS) and anti-rotation screw (AS) on vertically oriented femoral neck fractures (VOFNFs) and investigate the clinical results of them. ⋯ The construction with TA ≤10° between DHS and AS showed superior biomechanical performance and clinical results than those with TA >10°.

Spinopelvic dissociation (SPD) is a severe injury characterized by a discontinuity between the spine and the bony pelvis consisting of a bilateral longitudinal sacral fracture, most of the times through sacral neuroforamen, and a horizontal fracture, usually through the S1 or S2 body. The introduction of the concept of triangular osteosynthesis has shown to be an advance in the stability of spinopelvic fixation (SPF). However, a controversy exists as to whether the spinal fixation should reach up to L4 and, if so, it should be combined with transiliac-transsacral screws (TTS). ⋯ According to our results, it can be concluded that in SPD, better stability is obtained when proximal fixation is only up to L5, without including L4 (alternative hypothesis), the addition of transiliac-transsacral fixations is essential.
