Review Case ReportsRole of ultrasonography with color-Doppler in the emergency diagnosis of acute penile fracture: a case report.
Penile fracture is the rupture of tunica albuginea, typically resulting from blunt trauma, intercourse, or penile manipulation. Diagnosis is made clinically. Ultrasound is not used frequently in diagnosis of penile fracture but it provides a fast, non-invasive alternative to more often used MRI and cavernography. We aimed to present diagnostic ultrasound and color Doppler images of a patient with acute penile fracture in conjunction with literature.

Ultrasound guided regional anaesthesia is becoming increasingly popular. The supraclavicular block has been transformed by ultrasound guidance into a potentially safe superficial block. We reviewed the techniques of performing supraclavicular block with special focus on ultrasound guidance.

ReviewPoint-of-care ultrasound in the diagnosis of upper extremity fracture-dislocation. A pictorial essay.
Patients commonly present with orthopedic injuries to the emergency department (ED). Although radiographs are the standard of care for evaulating these injuries, point-of-care ultrasound is being increasingly used to make the diagnosis. ⋯ The American College of Emergency Physicians ultrasound guidelines advocate fracture identification as within the EP's scope of practice. This pictorial essay reviews how to use point-of-care ultrasound to diagnose fractures and dislocations of the upper extremity.

The four major categories of skill sets associated with proficiency in ultrasound guided regional anaesthesia are 1) understanding device operations, 2) image optimization, 3) image interpretation and 4) visualization of needle insertion and injection of the local anesthetic solution. Of these, visualization of needle insertion and injection of local anaesthetic solution can be practiced using simulators and phantoms. This survey of existing simulators summarizes advantages and disadvantages of each. Current deficits pertain to the validation process.

Randomized Controlled TrialUltrasound-guided versus Computed Tomography-controlled facet joint injections in the middle and lower cervical spine: a prospective randomized clinical trial.
A prospective randomized clinical trial was conducted to evaluate accuracy, time-saving, radiation doses and pain relief of ultrasound-guided (US) facet joint injections versus Computed Tomography (CT)-controlled interventions in the cervical spine. ⋯ US-guided intra-articular injections show the same therapeutic effect as CT-guided intra-articular injections and result in a significant reduction of procedure duration without any exposure to radiation.
