Multicenter StudyMedical education for emergency physician focused on basic competence (Focused Assessment with Sonography in Trauma). Evaluation of the Romanian national program: "Regional Emergency Medical Services Systems".
Focused Assessment with Sonography in Trauma (FAST), a type of training for unique ultrasonography competence, represents a necessity in the emergency assistance of the trauma patient. The principal OBJECTIVE of this prospective study was to evaluate the teaching performance and to identify the training necessities related to the curriculum of the unique ultrasonography competence--FAST--used in the frame of the national program of rehabilitation of the emergency system in Romania. ⋯ The implementation of a national training program, with a unitary curriculum, creates premises for a standardized training process. The first national training program in FAST, a unique competence in emergency ultrasonography, identified the necessity for curricular remodeling.

Comparative StudyNasal bone fracture--ultrasonography or computed tomography?
The aim of the study is to estimate the diagnostic sensitivity and utility of high-resolution ultrasonography (HRUS) in comparison with a gold standard technique in the diagnosis of the nasal fracture. ⋯ HRUS is a reliable and available method for diagnosis of nasal bone fractures especially in the fracture, which is confined to the nasal bone and can be used as a modality of choice for investigation of nasal fracture.

Randomized Controlled TrialLong versus short axis ultrasound guided approach for internal jugular vein cannulation: a prospective randomised controlled trial.
The aim of this study was to compare the short and long axis approaches to ultrasound guided right internal jugular vein cannulation with respect to indicators of success. ⋯ We conclude that anaesthetists with experience in ultrasound guided internal jugular vein cannulation, have higher first pass success rate and less carotid artery puncture when a short axis, rather than a long axis, approach is employed.

Injection therapies play a major role in the treatment of low back pain and radiculopathy and are becoming integral parts of a multidisciplinary approach in treatment and rehabilitation of patients with pain. Pararadicular- and facet-joint injections in the lumbar spine are preferentially performed with computed tomography (CT) or fluoroscopy-guidance. In this paper we present an alternative, simple and easy to learn US-guided technique for injection therapy in the lumbar spine.

The sonographic evaluation of the gastrointestinal tract regards experienced sonographers who are able to identify all abdominal and parenchymal structures. Transabdominal ultrasonography allows the evaluation of the entire digestive tract, starting with the oesophagus (especially the oesogastric junction), followed by the examination of the stomach, duodenum and small bowel, and ending with the appendix and colon. In order to be able to find pathological aspects, we should be familiar with the normal ultrasound aspect of different parts of the gastrointestinal tract. By becoming more experienced in abdominal ultrasonography, the visualization of the gastrointestinal tract will become easier.
