Toxicologic studies have reported propylene oxide (PO) exposure may harm the respiratory system, but the association between PO exposure and lung function and potential mechanism remains unclear. ⋯ PO exposure was associated with lung function decline among community residents, and oxidative DNA damage and protein carbonylation partially mediated PO exposure-associated lung function decline. Further attention on respiratory damage caused by PO exposure is warranted.

ICU survivors often have complex care needs and can experience insufficient medication reconciliation and polypharmacy. It is unknown which ICU survivors are at risk of new sedative use posthospitalization. ⋯ One in 15 sedative-naive, older adult ICU survivors filled a new sedative within ≤ 7 days of discharge; more than one-half of these survivors filled persistent prescriptions. New prescriptions at discharge varied widely across hospitals and represent the potential value of modifying prescription practices, including medication review and reconciliation.

It is unknown if pulmonary alterations in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) impact respiratory mechanics during exercise. ⋯ These data demonstrate the HFpEF syndrome is associated with pulmonary alterations eliciting a greater Pb during exercise resulting from greater inspiratory and expiratory resistive Pb.
