Randomized Controlled Trial
Effect of a preoperative self-catheterization video on anxiety: a randomized controlled trial.
The purpose of this study was to determine if a clean intermittent self-catheterization (CISC) instructional video could improve anxiety in women undergoing prolapse and/or incontinence surgery. ⋯ Women undergoing prolapse/incontinence surgery have significant perioperative anxiety, which is exacerbated by voiding trial failure. Preoperative CISC video viewing decreases anxiety scores immediately following viewing, but this effect is not sustained at voiding trial failure. Women with baseline anxiety/depression exhibit less anxiety score improvement after video viewing and have overall higher anxiety scores perioperatively.

Responsiveness of the Pelvic Floor Distress Inventory and Pelvic Floor Impact Questionnaire in women undergoing treatment for pelvic floor disorders.
This study evaluated the responsiveness and minimal important differences (MID) of the Chinese Pelvic Floor Distress Inventory (PFDI) and Pelvic Floor Impact Questionnaire (PFIQ) in women undergoing urodynamic stress incontinence (USI) and/or pelvic organ prolapse (POP) treatment. ⋯ The Chinese PFDI and PFIQ instruments are responsive to change in women undergoing continence surgery, PFR surgery or vaginal pessary for USI or POP.

De novo urgency has a negative impact on women after midurethral sling (MUS). We aimed to identify risk factors for de novo urgency (dU) and urgency urinary incontinence (dUUI) following MUS, using multivariate analysis. ⋯ Urodynamic parameters, history of prior incontinence or prolapse surgery and concomitant apical prolapse operation were important predictors of dU or dUUI following MUS.

Our goal was to determine if there is a correlation between low back pain (LBP) and pelvic organ prolapse (POP) by assessing for change in LBP after surgical correction of prolapse. ⋯ Our study found a statistically significant but not clinically significant improvement of LBP after surgical repair of prolapse.

Major bleeding complications following sacral nerve stimulation (SNS, InterStim) are exceptionally rare and have not been reported in the literature. We report a case of extensive gluteal hematoma following SNS procedure in a woman with a known history of thrombophilia.
