Randomized Controlled Trial
The effect of perioperative ketorolac on pain control in pregnancy termination.
The study was conducted to evaluate the effect of perioperative ketorolac on pain associated with first-trimester aspiration abortion. ⋯ Perioperative ketorolac has the same effect on postoperative pain as determined by VAS as placebo. The use of ketorolac at the 30-mg dose cannot be recommended for better pain control for patients undergoing first-trimester pregnancy termination by suction curettage. The only positive effect of the use of ketorolac compared to placebo was a reduction in the use of acetaminophen. Ketorolac use does not appear to change blood loss in the operating room or through postoperative day 1 compared to placebo.

Randomized Controlled Trial
Intrauterine lidocaine infusion for pain management during outpatient transcervical tubal sterilization: a randomized controlled trial.
The study was conducted to examine the effects of a 4% intrauterine lidocaine infusion on patient-perceived pain during transcervical sterilization. ⋯ Intrauterine lidocaine prior to outpatient transcervical sterilization does not decrease pain.

Multicenter Study Comparative Study
Comparison of contraceptive method chosen by women with and without a recent history of induced abortion.
Women undergoing induced abortion may be more motivated to choose long-acting reversible contraception (LARC), including the intrauterine device (IUD) and implant, than women without a history of abortion. Our objective was to determine whether the contraceptive method chosen is influenced by a recent history of induced abortion and access to immediate postabortion contraception. ⋯ Women offered immediate postabortion contraception are more likely to choose the IUD and implant than women without a recent abortion history. Increasing access to immediate postabortion LARC is essential to preventing repeat unintended pregnancies.

The aim of this study is to explore the effect of first-trimester mifepristone-induced abortion on vaginal bleeding in subsequent pregnancy. ⋯ One previous mifepristone-induced abortion increased the risk of vaginal bleeding in early gestation period of subsequent pregnancy compared with no abortion, especially if abortion occurred before 7 weeks of gestation and was followed by a curettage or complications.

Effects of prophylactic misoprostol administration prior to intrauterine device insertion in nulliparous women.
This study was conducted to examine the effects of prophylactic misoprostol prior to intrauterine device (IUD) placement in nulliparous women. ⋯ Prophylactic misoprostol prior to IUD placement in nulliparous women did not reduce patient perceived pain, but it did appear to increase preinsertion side effects.
