Practice GuidelineRecommendations for the use of PET imaging biomarkers in the diagnosis of neurodegenerative conditions associated with dementia: SEMNIM and SEN consensus.
The new diagnostic criteria for Alzheimer's disease (AD) acknowledges the interest given to biomarkers to improve the specificity in subjects with dementia and to facilitate an early diagnosis of the pathophysiological process of AD in the prodromal or pre-dementia stage. The current availability of PET imaging biomarkers of synaptic dysfunction (PET-FDG) and beta amyloid deposition using amyloid-PET provides clinicians with the opportunity to apply the new criteria and improve diagnostic accuracy in their clinical practice. ⋯ The present work includes a systematic review of the literature on the utility of FDG-PET and amyloid-PET for the diagnosis of AD and related neurodegenerative diseases that occur with dementia. Thus, we propose a series of recommendations agreed on by the Spanish Society of Nuclear Medicine and Spanish Society of Neurology as a consensus statement on the appropriate use of PET imaging biomarkers.

Clinical Trial(18)F-FDG PET/CT for the detection of large vessel vasculitis in patients with polymyalgia rheumatica.
Polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) may present together with large vessel vasculitis (LVV), and frequently requires a more intensive therapy. The aim of the study was to evaluate the impact of (18)F-FDG PET/CT in the diagnosis and management of LVV associated to PMR. ⋯ (18)F-FDG PET/CT was useful in identifying patients with LVV associated to PMR. The detection of vascular inflammation had an important impact, and led to a change of treatment in a high percentage of patients with LVV.

[Axillary pathologic response after neoadjuvant chemotherapy in locally advanced breast cancer with axillary involvement].
To compare axillary involvement (N+) at initial staging in locally advanced breast cancer (LABC) with axillary lymphadenectomy histologic results after neoadjuvant chemotherapy treatment (NeoChemo). ⋯ More than 50% of women affected by locally advanced breast cancer with tumoral axillary involvement at initial diagnosis present free metastatic axilla after therapeutic neoadjuvant chemotherapy effect. This increases up to almost 90% in case of occult metastatic axilla detected with sentinel node biopsy prior starting neoadjuvant chemotherapy.

[Screening with angiographic images prior to (99m)Tc-HMPAO labelled leukocyte scintigraphy in the diagnosis of periprosthetic infection].
To evaluate the impact of the angioscintigrapy of the three phase bone scan as screening method to rule out infection of the hip and knee prosthesis prior to performing the (99m)Tc-HMPAO leukocyte scintigraphy. ⋯ Angioscintigraphy (blood flow phase of bone scan) is a useful technique for screening for hip and knee joint prosthesis infection, significantly reducing the need for (99m)Tc-HMPAO leukocyte scintigraphy without affecting the sensitivity of the technique.

[Diagnostic performance of bone scintigraphy and (11)C-Choline PET/CT in the detection of bone metastases in patients with biochemical recurrence of prostate cancer].
To compare bone scan (BS) with (11)C-Choline PET/CT for the detection of bone metastases in patients with biochemical recurrence of prostate cancer (PC). ⋯ (11)C-Choline PET/CT yielded better sensitivity and specificity than BS for the detection of bone involvement in patients with biochemical recurrence of PC and allowed extraosseous restaging, with an impact in the clinical management of these patients.
