This study aimed to evaluate whether position of the displaced lesser trochanter affected clinical outcome in the treatment of unstable trochanteric fractures with intramedullary fixation. ⋯ The severe displaced lesser trochanter may increase postoperative complications and postoperative pain in the treatment of unstable trochanteric femur fractures. However, the displaced lesser trochanter may not affect hip function.

This study aims to explore whether extracorporeal shockwave treatment (ESWT) based on the theory of fascial manipulation (FM) at select treatment points is superior to traditional local ESWT for pain relief in adhesive capsulitis of the shoulder. ⋯ ESWT-FM provided faster pain relief and slightly more notable improvement of function compared with L-ESWT for the patients with adhesive capsulitis of shoulder.

Several investigators have sought risk factors for mortality in acute kidney injury (AKI). However, no epidemiological studies have investigated the impact of red blood cell distribution width (RDW) on prognosis for critically ill patients with AKI. The aim of this study was to investigate the association of RDW with mortality in these patients. ⋯ RDW appeared to be an independent prognostic marker in critically ill patients with AKI and higher RDW was associated with increased risk of mortality in these patients.

Suturing plays a critical role in the healing of surgical wounds. The tensile strength of suture materials indicates the ability of the material to withstand stress during knotting and protect the wound during an extended period of healing. ⋯ Oral surgeons and periodontists should be cautious when prescribing commercial mouthwashes for patients relative to their selection of suture materials. However, further studies are needed to understand the molecular changes in sutures when exposed to chemical solutions found in mouthwashes.

To evaluate contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) for monitoring early intrahepatic recurrence of primary hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after curative treatment. ⋯ Intrahepatic recurrent HCC and HGDNs with diameter ≤ 3.0 cm have a characteristic appearance on CEUS. This imaging modality may be effective for monitoring early intrahepatic recurrence after curative treatment of primary HCC.
