The aim of the study was to evaluate the relationship between the pre-surgical administration of a chemotherapy regime based on irinotecan or oxaliplatin and the development of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) or sinusoidal obstruction syndrome (SOS), and the influence of these histological changes on the outcome of patients after surgical intervention. ⋯ Treatment with irinotecan was significantly associated with an increase in the incidence of steatohepatitis, but did not increase the morbidity or mortality. Patients treated with oxaliplatin had a higher incidence of SOS, an increase in liver complications and a longer mean hospital stay.

Clinical Trial
[Surgical fixation of rib fractures with clips and titanium bars (STRATOS System). Preliminary experience].
Rib fractures are very common in closed chest injuries. The majority of these patients suffer significant pain with movement and cough. The purpose of this study is to assess the usefulness of titanium rib bars and clips in stabilising rib fractures. ⋯ Open reduction with internal fixation of rib fractures is a good alternative. The use of titanium rib bars and clips give good clinical results, are easy to apply and have few complications.

Open thoracotomy is one of the surgical procedures that is still very painful in the postoperative period, which, in this type of surgery can have on respiratory function and subsequent recovery of the patient. ⋯ Continuous thoracic paravertebral analgesia is effective and safe in controlling post-thoracotomy pain.

Identify the factors of greatest impact in patients with chest trauma. ⋯ Thoracic injuries have a number of indicators of severity. The mortality risk is associated with an ISS >25, the presence of 3 or more rib fractures with flail chest, pulmonary contusion, the development of ARDS, and with an age >55 years.
