To describe the frequency and bibliographic characteristics of letters to the editor in the journal, Cirugía Española published between 2000 and 2007 and to compare the differences in the periods between 2000-2003 and 2004-2007. ⋯ The letters in Cirugía Española journal have regained their previous frequency after a period of stagnation between 2002 and 2005. In the final period of the study there was a marked improvement compared to the first one in most indicators studied.

Missed injuries in trauma patients are injuries not identified during a primary and secondary trauma survey (Advanced Trauma Life Support, ATLS). These injuries are important because of the delay in correct treatment. There is a particularly important sub-group consisting of clinically significant missed injuries, which may cause serious complications in the patient or even death. ⋯ The rate of missed injuries and clinically significant missed injuries is high. Severe trauma patients and intubated patients have higher rates of missed injuries.

Minimally invasive esophagectomy (MIE) can reduce surgical aggression and cardiopulmonary complications while maintaining basic oncological principles. We present the results of our initial experience with this technique in the treatment of esophageal cancer. ⋯ Minimally invasive techniques to resect the esophagus in patients with cancer were confirmed to be safe and comparable to an open approach with respect to postoperative recovery and cancer survival.
