Congenital brain arteriovenous fistulas (BAVFs) are rare vascular lesions, and conservative management was associated with a high mortality rate. We report our experience in the treatment of congenital BAVFs using detachable coils and Onyx liquid embolic agent. ⋯ In our experience, the endovascular treatment of BAVFs with combination of detachable coils and Onyx is feasible, safe, and effective. This technique affords more control in the Onyx injection and minimizes the risk of distal embolization.

The normal cranial nerves (CNs) of the cavernous sinus can be clearly demonstrated using contrast-enhanced constructive interference in steady-state (CISS) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). This study used the method to evaluate pathological CNs III, IV, V(1), V(2), and VI in cavernous sinuses affected by inflammatory and neoplastic diseases. ⋯ Contrast-enhanced CISS MRI is useful for detecting CN abnormalities in inflammatory pathological conditions of the cavernous sinuses.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder primarily affecting upper and lower motor neurons. Due to relative fast progression of the disease, early diagnosis is essential. Proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy ((1)H-MRS) is used for objectivization of upper motor neuron (UMN) lesions. The aim of this study was to assess the use of (1)H-MRS in the early stages of ALS. ⋯ (1)H-MRS is sensitive to detect metabolic changes caused by neurodegeneration processes during ALS and can be used for detection of UMN dysfunction. These MRS changes in the early stages of ALS are most prominent in motor cortex.
