The management of ingested foreign bodies in an Ear Nose and Throat Emergency Unit: prospective study of 204 cases.
To determine how often ingested foreign bodies are found and what parameters may predict their retrieval. ⋯ Patients with ingestion of foreign body who ingest fish bone, present within the first 6 hours or complain of symptoms at or above cricoid cartilage deserve greater investment in terms of time and resources for retrieval of ingested foreign body by Ear Nose and Throat team.

Case ReportsInterarytenoid osseous bridge after prolonged endotracheal intubation.
Posterior glottic stenosis or interarytenoid fibrous adhesion is uncommon and has sometimes been misdiagnosed as cord paralysis. Laryngoscopy and laryngeal electromyography studies are the two main diagnostic aids. We present the case of a 63-year-old man under endotracheal intubation during 10 days after a cardiac procedure who was evaluated in our department for persistent dysphonia. ⋯ During the microlaryngoscopy procedure, the osseous consistence of the interarytenoid lesion was observed. Laser surgery excision of the lesion was performed with good results. According to our review of the literature, this corresponds to the second case reported.

Comparative StudyFunctional and oncological results of non-surgical vs surgical treatment in squamous cell carcinomas of the oropharynx.
Squamous cell carcinomas of the oropharynx are aggressive tumours usually diagnosed at advanced stage. Their optimal treatment has not been established. The aim of this study was to compare the oncological and functional outcomes in patients with carcinomas of the oropharynx treated by radiotherapy (with chemotherapy in advanced stages) vs surgery (with radiotherapy in advanced stages). ⋯ The prognosis of squamous cell carcinoma of the oropharynx is poor. Oncological results in Stages I and II were similar for radiotherapy and surgical treatments. In advanced stages, the prognosis was better in patients treated by surgery with or without radiotherapy. Functional results were similar in both treatment modalities.

Lingual abscess is an unusual condition but it may become a life-threatening entity. It presents as a very painful swelling of the tongue that, in its early stages, can be managed by antibiotic treatment. ⋯ We report a case who consulted on two occasions for a lingual abscess, which opened spontaneously. Due to the rarity of recurrent cases, the causes, diagnosis and treatments will be reviewed.

Indirect laryngoscopy with rigid 70-degree laryngoscope as a predictor of difficult direct laryngoscopy.
The commonly-used predictors for difficult airway management are not very accurate. We investigate the power of indirect laryngoscopy with the rigid 70-degree laryngoscope as a predictor of difficult visualisation of the larynx with direct laryngoscopy. ⋯ Indirect laryngoscopy was the independent variable with the greatest predictive power. Snoring is a common predictor in both laryngoscopy models.
