[Cochleovestibular dysfunction in patients with diabetes mellitus, hypertension and dyslipidemia].
Polygenic or multifactorial inheritance of chronic disorders (MICD) contribute to irreversible cochleovestibular impairment. Our aim was to determine the type and degree of cochleovestibular dysfunction (CVD) in patients with MICD. ⋯ Cochlear dysfunction occurs in patients with MICD and the impact is greater than that of vestibular dysfunction. However, the age factor, duration and number of MICDs contribute to CVD. It is necessary to act on the MICDs and lifestyles to improve CVD.

[Long-term persistence of obstructive sleep apnoea-hypopnoea syndrome in children treated with adenotonsillectomy. Analysis of prognostic factors].
Treatment of obstructive sleep apnoea-hypopnoea syndrome in children with adenotonsillectomy is effective but has a moderate rate of persistent disease. ⋯ The results of our study about the persistence of obstructive sleep apnoea-hypopnoea syndrome after adenotonsillectomy are significant enough to recommend follow-up with polysomnography, especially in high-risk groups. In the series presented here, we were not able to demonstrate these risk factors. Our results are probably conditioned by the characteristics of the population studied: Low age, low obesity rate and less severe levels of apnoea-hypopnoea index.

Development and validation of a method of cilia motility analysis for the early diagnosis of primary ciliary dyskinesia.
Primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) is a clinically uniform entity, but cilia motility and structure can vary between patients, making the diagnostic difficult. The aim of this study was to evaluate the sensitivity and specificity in diagnosing PCD of a system of high-resolution digital high-speed video analysis with proprietary software that we developed for analysis of ciliary motility (Desinsoft-Bio 200). The secondary aim was to correlate nasal ciliary activity with clinical and structural abnormalities in PCD. ⋯ Nasal mucociliary transport showed high sensitivity for PCD diagnosis with a low specificity. High-resolution digital high-speed video has a high sensitivity and specificity for diagnosing PCD. This system of video analysis is more useful than ultrastructural study and mucociliary transport for PCD screening. Dynein absence is correlated with cilia immotility and is more common in patients with Kartagener syndrome.

Intratemporal complications from acute otitis media in children: 17 cases in two years.
To describe the clinical features of intratemporal complications of acute otitis media (AOM) in children, a retrospective study was carried out for two years. ⋯ Acute mastoiditis is the most common complication. Labyrinthitis was diagnosed in 41.2% of cases. S. pyogenes was prevalent in these serious invasive infections in our area. Associated intracranial complications were present in 17.6% cases. Resolution of AOM complications required surgical procedures in all cases (myringotomy, drainage of subperiosteal abscess or tympanomastoidectomy).
