Hypertension management in primary care: how effective is a telephone recall for patients with low appointment adherence in a practice setting?
Studies showed a positive association between appointment adherence and blood pressure control. In randomized-controlled trials blood pressure therapy was improved by recall systems. We analyze the effectiveness of an active telephone recall on blood pressure control for patients with low appointment adherence in regular primary care. ⋯ Active telephone recall improved blood pressure control of hypertensive patients with low appointment adherence in regular primary care. An active recall can be recommended for other primary care scenarios.

Comparative StudyPatient-specific evaluation of knee disorders in clinical practice.
Nowadays, an increasing number of patients expect their physician to provide a measureable and, therefore, comparable treatment effect that quantifies success or failure of the applied therapy. Unfortunately, different knee classification schemes applied to the same patient may provide diverging results. Therefore, the objective of this paper was to present recommendations to clinicians for a meaningful outcome assessment of their patients. ⋯ To our opinion the IKDC should be applied to athletic patients suffering from post-traumatic knee symptoms who are younger than 50 years. For non-athletes aged 50 years and older the WOMAC is considered suitable whereas the KOOS is recommended to all other patients with knee disorders.

Is suprascapular neuropathy common in high-performance beach volleyball players? A retrospective analysis.
Pain in the shoulder is a common problem in overhead sports and at times goes along with atrophy of the supra- and infraspinatus muscles. A neuropathy of the suprascapular nerve is one possible reason. The aim of the study was to examine the suprascapular nerve in Austrian high-performance beach volleyball players. ⋯ A lesion of the suprascapular nerve could not be shown in any of the players. Therefore, a biomechanical cause has to be considered for the clinical symptoms in the present study population.

Prediction of cancer incidence in Tyrol/Austria for year of diagnosis 2020.
Prediction of the number of incident cancer cases is very relevant for health planning purposes and allocation of resources. The shift towards elder age groups in central European populations in the next decades is likely to contribute to an increase in cancer incidence for many cancer sites. In Tyrol, cancer incidence data have been registered on a high level of completeness for more than 20 years. We therefore aimed to compute well-founded predictions of cancer incidence for Tyrol for the year 2020 for all frequent cancer sites and for all cancer sites combined. ⋯ The increase in the number of incident cancer cases of 15 % in females and 21 % in males in the next decade is very relevant for planning purposes. However, external factors cause uncertainty in the prediction of some cancer sites (mainly prostate cancer and colorectal cancer) and the prediction intervals are still broad. Therefore, our predictions must be interpreted with some caution.
