Letter ReviewRecurrent gestational diabetes : Breaking the transgenerational cycle with lifestyle modification.
This literature review is aimed at examining the benefits of lifestyle modifications in preventing recurrent gestational diabetes (GDM). Worldwide GDM affects approximately 16.2% of all pregnancies with significant maternal, fetal and neonatal complications. Almost two thirds of pregnant women with GDM will develop type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in the years following pregnancy. The proportion of women affected by GDM is on the rise and reflects increasing trends in T2DM as well as adult and childhood obesity. ⋯ This review provides an overview of the literature to date, discusses different targeted approaches and how these interventions can optimise their benefits, and where further research is required.

Observational StudyDifferences in intensity and quality of bowel symptoms in patients with colorectal endometriosis : An observational cross-sectional study.
Patients suffering from colorectal deep endometriosis (DE) experience gastrointestinal symptoms with almost the same frequency as gynecological pain symptoms. Preoperatively existing gastrointestinal symptoms may translate into pathological gastrointestinal quality of life index (GIQLI) and low anterior resection syndrome scores (LARS). This prospective questionnaire-based case control study aims to assess the prevalence of gastrointestinal complaints reflected by changes in LARS and GIQLI scores in patients with colorectal deep endometriosis prior to surgical treatment and compare those to a healthy control group. ⋯ Patients with colorectal DE experience a quality of gastrointestinal symptoms translating into a decreased QoL and pathological GIQLI and LARS scores already presurgically. As a consequence, these instruments should be interpreted with caution.

Meta AnalysisInflammatory bowel disease and risk of coronary heart disease : A Mendelian randomization study.
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), including ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD), has been reported to be associated with an increased risk of coronary heart disease (CHD); however, the causal link between IBD and CHD is unclear. We performed Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to investigate the association between genetically predicted IBD and CHD risk. ⋯ The results of this study suggested that genetically predicted IBD may have no causal effect on CHD risk in a population with European ancestry.

National consensus statement by the Austrian Societies for Rheumatology, Pulmonology, Infectiology, Dermatology and Gastroenterology regarding the management of latent tuberculosis and the associated utilization of biologic and targeted synthetic disease modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs).
This publication provides a thorough analysis of the most relevant topics concerning the management of latent tuberculosis when using biologic and targeted synthetic Disease Modifying Antirheumatic Drugs (DMARDs) by a multidisciplinary, select committee of Austrian physicians. The committee includes members of the Austrian Societies for Rheumatology and Rehabilitation, Pulmonology, Infectiology, Dermatology and Gastroenterology. Consensus was reached on issues regarding screening and treatment of latent tuberculosis and includes separate recommendations for each biologic and targeted synthetic DMARD.
