Pseudomonas aeruginosa folliculitis (PF) can develop after exposure to contaminated water in heated swimming pools, whirlpools, and hot-tubes, or after diving suit dressing. ⋯ Based on our experience, we suggest that shower/bath exposure should be definitively included amongst the possible pathogenic events causing PF. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is responsible for a number of clinical pictures, e.g. otitis externa, conjunctivitis, toe web intertrigo, green nail syndrome, infection of burns and wounds, and folliculitis. Pseudomonas aeruginosa folliculitis (PF) has been reported to develop as a consequence of exposure to contaminated water in heated swimming pools, whirlpools, and hot-tubes, or related to diving suits and leg waxing.1-4 We observed 14 cases of PF after shower/bath exposure. This is probably an underestimated pathogenic event; to our knowledge, only one case has been reported to date.5 In our patients, the clinical expression of dermatitis was constant, PF being a clinically well recognizable skin condition.

Maggot therapy for the treatment of intractable wounds.
Fly maggots have been known for centuries to help debride and heal wounds. Maggot therapy was first introduced in the USA in 1931 and was routinely used there until the mid-1940s in over 300 hospitals. With the advent of antimicrobiols, maggot therapy became rare until the early 1990s, when it was re-introduced in the USA, UK, and Israel. The objective of this study was to assess the efficacy of maggot therapy for the treatment of intractable, chronic wounds and ulcers in long-term hospitalized patients in Israel. ⋯ Maggot therapy is a relatively rapid and effective treatment, particularly in large necrotic wounds requiring debridement and resistant to conventional treatment and conservative surgical intervention.

Chronic venous leg ulcers have a major medical and economic impact on the elderly worldwide. Healing of the large ulcers (>10 cm2) occurs only in two-thirds of the patients and reulceration of healed ulcers recurs in one-third within 1 year. Because both healing and relapse rate influence greatly a patient's quality of life and the overall cost of treatment, every effort should be made to improve these two parameters. ⋯ In this first study, topically applied low-dose rhu GM-CSF was a safe treatment for chronic venous leg ulcers. Healing rates were significantly increased and relapse rates were minimal.

The reference list is an important part of a scientific article. To be useful, it must be accurate. ⋯ This study shows that the rate of citation errors is unacceptably high in the Journal of Dermatology and the Korean Journal of Dermatology, which significantly diminishes the value of the reference list. We would strongly urge that the peer review of citation and quotation accuracy should be strengthened.
