The Atlanta classification of acute pancreatitis enabled standardised reporting of research and aided communication between clinicians. Deficiencies identified and improved understanding of the disease make a revision necessary. ⋯ This international, web-based consensus provides clear definitions to classify acute pancreatitis using easily identified clinical and radiologic criteria. The wide consultation among pancreatologists to reach this consensus should encourage widespread adoption.

The authors tested whether the anti-interleukin (IL)-17A monoclonal antibody secukinumab was safe and effective for the treatment of active Crohn's disease. ⋯ This trial was registered at ClinicalTrial.gov with the number NCT01009281.

Statin use and the risk of Clostridium difficile in academic medical centres.
To estimate the possible relationship between statin use and the risk of healthcare facility onset Clostridium difficile. ⋯ Our data were consistent with a growing body of literature demonstrating a reduced risk of infections with statin use. Statins' pleiotropic properties may provide protection against C difficile infection.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are important in hepatic pathophysiology and the development of liver cancer. ⋯ miR-221/222 may be new markers for stellate cell activation and liver fibrosis progression.
