Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialA prehabilitation program for physically frail community-living older persons.
To describe the development and implementation of a preventive, home-based physical therapy program (PREHAB) and to provide evidence for the safety and interrater reliability of the PREHAB protocol. ⋯ Our results support the feasibility and safety of the PREHAB program, but also show the special challenges and pitfalls of such a strategy when it is implemented among persons of advanced age and physical frailty.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Clinical TrialOvernight use of continuous low-level heatwrap therapy for relief of low back pain.
To evaluate of the efficacy and safety of 8 hours of continuous, low-level heatwrap therapy administered during sleep. ⋯ Overnight use of heatwrap therapy provided effective pain relief throughout the next day, reduced muscle stiffness and disability, and improved trunk flexibility. Positive effects were sustained more than 48 hours after treatments were completed.

Multicenter Study Clinical TrialAnalyzing risk factors for late posttraumatic seizures: a prospective, multicenter investigation.
To ascertain the natural history and to stratify risks for the development of late posttraumatic seizures in individuals with moderate to severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). ⋯ Stratification by CT scan findings and neurosurgical procedures performed were the most useful findings in defining individuals at highest risk for late posttraumatic seizures.

This self-directed learning module highlights the importance of applying principles described earlier in the Study Guide to specific diseases encountered by practitioners managing chronic pain in order to administer appropriate treatment. This chapter focuses on several challenging and increasingly common maladies and attempts to delineate rationales for holistic, comprehensive care. ⋯ To explore diagnostic concepts and therapeutic strategies in fibromyalgia syndrome, central pain, multiple sclerosis, complex regional pain syndrome, and postherpetic neuralgia.
