ReviewAlternating antipyretics in the treatment of fever in children: a systematic review of randomized clinical trials.
To summarize the existing evidence on the efficacy of therapy with alternating antipyretics compared to monotherapy in the management of fever in children. ⋯ Although there was a tendency towards the reduction of mean temperatures with alternating antipyretics compared to the use of one antipyretic alone, there is not enough evidence to say that alternating antipyretic therapy is more effective than monotherapy.

Influence of thoracic spine postural disorders on cardiorespiratory parameters in children and adolescents with cystic fibrosis.
To assess the impact of increased thoracic kyphosis on pulmonary function and functional capacity in children and adolescents with cystic fibrosis (CF) and to verify the influence of disease severity, age and nutritional status on this deformity. ⋯ There was a high prevalence of increased thoracic kyphosis in children and adolescents with CF. The deformity did not affect pulmonary function and functional capacity and there was no relationship with disease severity. Regardless of posture, worsening of disease severity determined worsening of pulmonary function.

Comparative StudyAbdominal radiograph in the assessment of fecal impaction in children with functional constipation: comparing three scoring systems.
To compare three radiological scores in the study of fecal impaction in children with constipation. To investigate whether these radiological scores are useful in the assessment of fecal disimpaction therapy and if they present a relation with total colonic transit time. ⋯ There is no relation between fecal impaction assessed by radiography of the abdomen and total colonic transit time. Plain radiographs may be a useful tool for the diagnosis of fecal impaction. The Barr score can be considered a good method of analysis, especially to assess the response to treatment of fecal impaction.

Predictive value of the physiological deadspace/tidal volume ratio in the weaning process of mechanical ventilation in children.
To evaluate the physiological deadspace/tidal volume ratio (VD/VT) as a predictor of extubation failure in 42 ventilated children (median age: 4.75 years). ⋯ Our findings confirm the good predictive value of weaning success/failure of the VD/VT ratio and suggest its role for predicting the need for NIV after extubation.

Risk factors for spinal anesthesia in preterm infants undergoing inguinal hernia repair.
To investigate the risk factors and incidence of perioperative adverse effects from unsupplemented spinal anesthesia in preterm infants. Times to resumption of oral feeding and to home discharge were also evaluated. ⋯ Spinal anesthesia is safe and effective for inguinal hernia repair in preterm infants, with early resumption of oral feeding and short hospitalization. Bronchopulmonary dysplasia and periventricular leukomalacia may pose risks for an unfavorable outcome.
