Controlled Clinical TrialPre- and postoperative fMRI and clinical memory performance in temporal lobe epilepsy.
The present study aimed to examine and compare memory processing in patients with unilateral temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) before and after surgery using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). ⋯ Postoperative memory performance was significantly associated with functional activation contralateral to the side of resection in patients with unilateral TLE, and the function of the contralateral mesial temporal lobe might play an important role in supporting memory performance after temporal lobe resection.

Prediction of conversion from clinically isolated syndrome to clinically definite multiple sclerosis according to baseline MRI findings: comparison of revised McDonald criteria and Swanton modified criteria.
The International Panel on the Diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis first incorporated abnormalities demonstrated by brain and spinal cord MRI into the diagnostic criteria (McDonald criteria) for multiple sclerosis (MS), which were later revised in 2005. In 2006, Swanton and colleagues modified the MRI criteria to simplify and speed the diagnosis. ⋯ In conclusion, Swanton's modified criteria are more sensitive and accurate (but not significantly so). However, Swanton's criteria are simpler to use and have equally high specificity and PPV.

Cerebrospinal fluid anti-myelin antibodies are related to magnetic resonance measures of disease activity in multiple sclerosis.
Recent studies reported contrasting results with respect to the presence of anti-myelin protein antibodies in multiple sclerosis (MS) and their relation with disease activity. This may be due to the heterogeneous specificity of autoantibodies in MS and the inability of most methods to detect pathogenically relevant antibodies. Here, myelin particles were used to detect anti-myelin antibodies in the CSF of MS patients. Subsequently, their relation with MRI parameters was evaluated. ⋯ CSF anti-myelin IgG antibodies are promising specific biomarkers in CIS and relapse onset MS and correlate with MR measures of disease activity.

Comparative StudyCranial autonomic symptoms in migraine: characteristics and comparison with cluster headache.
Cranial autonomic symptoms (CAS) are distinguishing features of trigeminal autonomic cephalalgias, of which cluster headache (CH) is the most common, but they can occur in patients with migraine. For migraine with strictly unilateral headache, the presence of CAS might cause diagnostic confusion with CH. Characteristics of CAS in migraine and comparisons with those in CH have rarely been reported. ⋯ CAS were present in half of our migraine patients and the clinical features may help differentiate migraine from CH.
