Systemic immune-inflammation index predicted the clinical outcome in patients with type-B aortic dissection undergoing thoracic endovascular repair.
The systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) has been reported to have prognostic ability in various cardiovascular diseases; however, it has not been studied in type-B aortic dissection (TBAD). We aimed to explore the relation of SII with short-term and long-term outcomes in TBAD patients undergoing thoracic endovascular repair (TEVAR). ⋯ Systemic immune-inflammation index is associated with both in-hospital and long-term outcomes in patients with TBAD undergoing TEVAR. Therefore, SII may serve as valuable tool for risk stratification before intervention.

Pyridoxal-5-phosphate induced cardioprotection in aging associated with up-expression of CSE, 3-MST, and KATP channels.
In the present work, we investigated the cardioprotective potential of pyridoxal-5-phosphate (PLP) in old rats as a cofactor of enzymes that synthesize hydrogen sulphide (H2 S). ⋯ Thus, PLP-administration in old rats was associated with up-expression of CSE, 3-MST, UCP3 and SUR2 and Kir6.1 subunits of KATP channels, and also increased cNOS activity and reduced oxidative stress and prevented reperfusion dysfunction of the heart in ischemia-reperfusion.

Predictors of fever response in tuberculous meningitis: A clinical, MRI and biomarker study.
Central nervous system (CNS) has a different immune surveillance system; therefore, fever at admission and timeline of fever response after antitubercular treatment (ATT) may follow a different course in CNS infection. We report the predictors of fever response in tuberculous meningitis (TBM) including the effect of tumour necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and its gene expression at mRNA of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs). ⋯ In the patients with TBM, defervescence takes longer time, and TNF-α gene expression predicts the duration of defervescence. Future studies are needed to evaluate the role of TNF-α-modifying drugs in TBM.

Observational StudyAlterations in gut microbiota and elevated serum bilirubin in primary biliary cholangitis patients treated with ursodeoxycholic acid.
The prognosis of primary bile cholangitis (PBC) is linked to gut microbiota dysbiosis. This study investigated the association between the gut microbiome and elevated total bilirubin (TB) level in PBC patients treated with ursodeoxycholic acid (UCDA). ⋯ TB level in PBC patients treated for 12 months with UCDA is associated with a distinct gut microbiome profile.

Obesity paradox in patients with chronic total occlusion of coronary artery.
Obesity is associated with metabolic syndrome which increases further risk of coronary artery disease and adverse cardiovascular events. Impact of body mass index (BMI) on long-term outcome in patients with coronary chronic total occlusion (CTO) is less clear. ⋯ Higher BMI was associated with better long-term outcome in patients with coronary CTO.
