Multicenter StudyAn online nomogram of acute respiratory distress syndrome originating from pulmonary disease.
Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a highly heterogeneous disease accompanied by high mortality. Our goal was to investigate the risk factors for 28-day mortality and then establish a predictive online nomogram for ARDS originating from pulmonary disease (ARDSp). ⋯ For ARDSp patients, older males, lower C-reactive protein and albumin levels, and MODS were independent predictors of a poor 28-day prognosis. The online nomogram based on five independent factors could act as a predictive appliance in clinical practice.

Class I HDAC Modulates Angiotensin II-induced Fibroblast Migration and Mitochondrial Overactivity.
Inhibition of histone deacetylases (HDACs) attenuates cardiac fibrosis. In this study, we evaluated whether the inhibition of class I HDACs can attenuate angiotensin II (ANG II)-induced fibrogenesis and mitochondrial malfunction through its effects on reactive oxygen species (ROS) and calcium dysregulation in human cardiac fibroblasts (CFs). ⋯ Modulating mitochondrial function by regulation of HDAC may be a novel strategy for controlling CF activity.

Fibrinogen β chain and FXIII polymorphisms affect fibrin clot properties in acute pulmonary embolism.
Prothrombotic fibrin clot properties, including increased clot density, are in part genetically determined. We investigated whether fibrinogen alpha-chain gene (FGA) c.991A>G (rs6050), fibrinogen beta chain gene (FGB) -455G>A (rs1800790) and factor XIII gene (F13) c.103G>T (rs5985) polymorphisms affect plasma fibrin clot properties in patients with acute pulmonary embolism (PE). ⋯ Our study showed that FGB rs1800790 and F13 rs5985 polymorphisms contribute to the prothrombotic fibrin clot phenotype and these effects are strong enough to be observed in the acute phase of PE.

Observational StudyAn observational study of the Covid-19 situation following the first pan-European mass sports event.
All events in Europe, including EURO2020 football championship, were postponed due to Covid-19 in 2020. Instead, Euro2020 took place in 2021, as mitigation measures were relaxed, cross-country mobility increased and the Delta variant was spreading across Europe. This study explored the possibility of an increased Covid-19 spread across Europe following EURO2020 matches. ⋯ The EURO2020 was an anticipated mass sports event, and it was the first-time spectators were allowed to enter stadiums in Europe. Stadiums instituted several mitigations to safeguard the spectators although reports of transmission were still present. The major challenges were the gatherings outside the stadiums that might have contributed to these observations. Targeted restrictions might be required during mass sport events especially in the presence of highly transmissible variant(s) and low vaccination rates among the young generation.

Delayed perihematomal hypoperfusion is associated with poor outcome in intracerebral haemorrhage.
The aim of this study was to characterize the temporal evolution and prognostic significance of perihematomal perfusion in acute intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH). ⋯ Perihaemorrhagic hypoperfusion becomes more severe in the days following acute ICH and is independently associated with poorer outcome. Understanding the underlying biological mechanisms responsible for delayed decrease in perihematomal perfusion is a necessary step towards outcome improvement in patients with ICH.
