Review Meta AnalysisRisk of Ischemic Heart Diseases and Stroke in Behçet Disease: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.
Behçet disease (BD) is a systemic vasculitis. In addition to the mucocutaneous lesions, the vascular injury of pathophysiology in BD is theoretically correlated with cardiovascular diseases. This study aimed to elucidate the association of BD with ischaemic heart diseases (IHDs) and stroke. ⋯ BD was significantly associated with stroke but not IHD. Physicians should be aware of possible vascular and neurological complications during care of patients with BD.

Relationship of body mass index to clinical outcomes after percutaneous coronary intervention.
Elevated body mass index (BMI) demonstrates lower all-cause and cardiovascular mortalities compared with normal-weight or lean patients in chronic diseases. This study investigated relationships between BMI and clinical outcomes following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in coronary artery disease (CAD) patients, together with the sex-specific impacts of BMI on mortality. ⋯ Lean category was associated with adverse outcomes among CAD patients. An obesity paradox regarding the independent association of elevated BMI with reduced mortality after PCI is evident in both males and females.

Incident and recurrent myocardial infarction (MI) in relation to comorbidities: Prediction of outcomes using machine learning algorithms.
To date, incident and recurrent MI remains a major health issue worldwide, and efforts to improve risk prediction in population health studies are needed. This may help the scalability of prevention strategies and management in terms of healthcare cost savings and improved quality of care. ⋯ ML algorithms can substantially improve the prediction of incident and recurrent MI particularly in terms of the non-linear formulation. This approach may help with improved risk prediction, allowing implementation of cardiovascular prevention strategies across diversified sub-populations with different clusters of complexity.

Association between RAC1 gene variation, redox homeostasis and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and oxidative stress are known to play a key role in the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes (T2D); however, the relationship between genes encoding a multi-subunit ROS-generated enzyme NADPH oxidase and disease susceptibility remains unexplored. ⋯ Thus, polymorphisms in the RAC1 gene represent novel genetic markers of type 2 diabetes, and their link with glucose metabolism and disease pathogenesis is associated with the changes in redox homeostasis.

Shorter periconception Maternal Telomere Length and the Risk of Congenital Cardiac Outflow Defects in the Offspring.
Congenital cardiac outflow defects (COD) are the largest group of congenital heart defects, with ventricular septal defect (VSD) as the most prevalent phenotype. Increased maternal age, excessive oxidative stress and inflammation are involved in the pathophysiology of COD and enhance telomere length (TL) shortening. We investigated the association between periconception maternal TL and the risk of having a child with COD. ⋯ Shorter maternal relative TL is associated with an approximately 1.3-OR for the risk, per SD in relative TL shortening, of VSD in the offspring. These findings need further confirmation in other studies on the predictive value of maternal TL.
