Sex tourism among men who have sex with men (MSM) provides a risk for spread of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. Sex tourism is defined as travelling outside of one's home town and purchasing sex with gifts or money. Our objective was to characterise the frequency, sociodemographic characteristics, and sexual risk behaviours among Chinese MSM sex tourists. ⋯ National Institutes of Health, Doris Duke Charitable Foundation.

Although the overall rate of newly reported primary and secondary syphilis cases in Guangdong Province has been decreasing since 2011, incidence in some cities has increased. Location-based intervention is needed for effective resource allocation. We aimed to understand the geographical variations of syphilis epidemiology and detect possible outbreaks and epidemics at county level by spatiotemporal analyses. ⋯ None. Hearing loss is the most frequent sensory disorder, affecting 1 in 500 newborns. More than 90 genes are associated with non-syndromic hearing loss. In this study we aimed to investigate the genetic etiology of families with non-syndromic hearing loss in Shandong, China. ⋯ National 973 Basic Research Program of China (2014CB541703).

Second-hand smoke is a major indoor pollutant that causes serious health problems, especially for pregnant women. The 2010 Global Adult Tobacco Survey in China reported that 65·1% of non-smoking women of childbearing age were exposed to second-hand smoke at home and 52·6% were exposed in the workplace. This study aimed to probe behaviours in avoiding indoor second-hand smoke exposure induced by different intimate relationships among pregnant women in China. ⋯ This project was supported by the Medjaden Academy & Research Foundation for Young Scientists (MJR20150047).
