Review Case Reports
Acute pancreatitis as an initial manifestation of parathyroid carcinoma: A case report and literature review.
Parathyroid carcinoma is a rare endocrine malignancy. Acute pancreatitis as an initial manifestation of parathyroid carcinoma has been rarely reported. ⋯ Acute pancreatitis accompanied with hypercalcemia should always raise the suspicion of PHPT. The spicule sign, which always suggests the infiltrating pattern growth of tumor, was neglected at first and was observed during a second review of the ultrasound images postoperatively. This specific feature may be predictive for the preoperative diagnosis of parathyroid carcinoma or at least suspicion of malignancy.

Review Case Reports
Endovascular stenting of spontaneous isolated dissection of the superior mesenteric artery: A case report and literature review.
Spontaneous isolated dissection of the superior mesenteric artery (SID-SMA) is a rare arterial disease that is difficult to differentiate from other diseases because of lack of specific clinical manifestation and for which there is no available optimal management strategy. ⋯ Based on our review and the illustration of this case, endovascular stenting may be a preferred rescue treatment in SID-SMA patients for whom initial conservative treatment fails.

Observational Study
Open reduction combined with CORA-based osteotomy of the ulna in the treatment of missed Bado type I Monteggia injury: A retrospective study of 5 cases.
Open reduction combined with ulnar osteotomy is the most common approach to treating missed Monteggia injuries. The osteotomy is usually performed at the proximal ulna to ensure better healing and fewer complications. The purpose of this study is to present a center of rotation angulation (CORA)-based osteotomy of the ulna for treating Bado type I Monteggia injuries. ⋯ All patients had pain-free elbows with no neurological or vascular complications and no implant breakage. Patients showed excellent outcomes evaluated using the Broberg and Morrey index. Open reduction with a CORA-based osteotomy of the ulna for the treatment of missed Bado type I Monteggia injury with an obvious ulnar bowing deformity resulted in stable reduction of the radial head and excellent forearm function.

The primary setting of palliative care has shifted from inpatient care to patients' residences. Family caregiving is essential for patients with life-limiting illnesses to receive palliative care at home, however little information is available regarding potential interventions to achieve palliative homecare for those without sufficient support from family members in various settings, including disasters. ⋯ Health care providers and community health workers may need to take a pro-active approach to communicating with family members to draw informal support to enable patients' end-of-life management according to their values and preferences. This is a lesson which may be applicable to broader healthcare settings beyond cancer, or disaster contexts, considering that population ageing and social isolation may continue to advance worldwide.

Garcin syndrome is characterized by the gradual involvement, and ultimately, unilateral paralysis of at least 7 and sometimes all cranial nerves, without intracranial hypertension or any long tract signs. ⋯ To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of PGACC presenting as Garcin syndrome. PGACC is a rare tumor with a high propensity for perineural spread, and it should be considered as a possible cause of Garcin syndrome.
