Randomized Controlled Trial
Effects of nefopam on emergence agitation after general anesthesia for nasal surgery: A prospective, randomized, and controlled trial.
Emergence agitation (EA) occurs frequently after nasal surgery. N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonists and analgesics, such as fentanyl, have been shown to prevent EA. Nefopam inhibits the NMDA receptor and shows a potent analgesic effect. We investigated the effects of nefopam on EA in patients undergoing nasal surgery. ⋯ Nefopam infusion is effective in preventing and reducing the severity of EA after nasal surgery without a delay in extubation. However, caution is required regarding the increase in HR.

The role of the chemoradiation therapy (CRT) and chemotherapy (CT) in the treatment of esophageal carcinoma (EC) remains controversial. Therefore, we conducted this meta-analysis to compare the efficacy and safety of CRT with CT in the treatment of EC patients. ⋯ On the basis of the current evidence, our results suggested that CRT seemed to have benefit in the radical resection, but no effect in the survival benefits. Further large-scale, well-conducted RCTs are needed to verify our findings.

Meta Analysis
Prognostic significance of metabolic enzyme pyruvate kinase M2 in breast cancer: A meta-analysis.
Numerous studies have reported that aberrant pyruvate kinase M2 isoform (PKM2) expressed in cancer, indicating that PKM2 plays a critical role in tumor initiation and progression. Nevertheless, its prognostic value in breast cancer tumor is yet contentious. Therefore, we performed this meta-analysis to evaluate the prognostic significance of PKM2 in breast cancer. ⋯ High PKM2 expression denotes worse OS and PFS in breast cancer patients, and correlate with the lymph node metastasis. However, there is no evidence for the impact of PKM2 expression on T stage and tumor differentiation.

Alveolar soft part sarcoma with multiple brain and lung metastases in pregnancy: A case report and literature review.
Alveolar soft part sarcomas (ASPSs) with multiple brain metastases in pregnancy is a rare entity. ⋯ We report a case of ASPS with multiple brain and lung metastases in a pregnant woman. We recommend timely MRI examination for diagnosis and have discussed the approach to the treatment of pregnant women with brain metastasis.

Mercury poisoning through intravenous administration: Two case reports with literature review.
Metallic mercury poisoning through intravenous injection is rare, especially for a homicide attempt. Diagnosis and treatment of the disease are challenging. ⋯ Early diagnosis and appropriate treatment are critical for intravenous mercury poisoning. It should be concerned about the combined use of chelation agents and other treatments, such as surgical excision, hemodialysis and plasma exchange in clinical settings.
