Spinal intramedullary tuberculoma following pulmonary tuberculosis: A case report and literature review.
Spinal intramedullary tuberculoma (IMTB) is a rare disease that accounts for 1 to 2/100,000 patients with tuberculosis. We presented a case with pulmonary tuberculosis and concurrent IMTB at C3 to C5 level and reviewed the recent case series and discussed the diagnosis, treatment, and outcome. ⋯ IMTB is a rare disease that should be treated with a combination of medication and surgery. For patients with prominent spinal cord compression and neurological symptoms, early operation to remove the tumor is necessary.

Association between MDR1 C3435T polymorphism and colorectal cancer risk: A meta-analysis.
The multidrug resistance gene 1(MDR1) C3435T polymorphism has been reported to be associated with colorectal cancer (CRC) risk in Asians, however the results were inconsistent. Thus, we performed a meta-analysis to generate large-scale evidence on the association between C3435T polymorphism and CRC risk in Asian populations. ⋯ In summary, this meta-analysis provided evidence that MDR1 C3435T polymorphism is associated with a decreased risk of CRC in Asian population.

The clinical efficacy of reminiscence therapy in patients with mild-to-moderate Alzheimer disease: Study protocol for a randomized parallel-design controlled trial.
Alzheimer disease (AD) is one of the most common diseases among the older adults. Currently, various nonpharmacological interventions are used for the treatment of AD. Such as reminiscence therapy is being widely used in Western countries. However, it is often used as an empirical application in China; the evidence-based efficacy of reminiscence therapy in AD patients remains to be determined. Therefore, the aim of this research is to assess the effectives of reminiscence therapy for Chinese elderly. ⋯ The protocols have been approved by the ethics committee of Beijing Geriatric Hospital of China (approval no. 2015-010). Findings will be disseminated through presentation at scientific conferences and in academic journals.

Quantifying the direct public health care cost of systemic sclerosis: A comprehensive data linkage study.
To quantify the direct healthcare cost of systemic sclerosis (SSc) and identify its determinants. Healthcare use was captured through data linkage, wherein clinical and medication data for SSc patients from the state of Victoria enrolled in the Australian Scleroderma Cohort Study were linked with the Victorian hospital admissions and emergency presentations data sets, and the Medicare Benefits Schedule which contains all government subsidized ambulatory care services, for the period 2011-2015. Medication cost was determined from the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme. ⋯ Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and gastrointestinal (GIT) involvement were the major determinants of healthcare cost (OR 2.3 and 1.8, P = .01 for hospitalizations; OR 2.8 and 2.0, P = .01 for ambulatory care; OR 7.8 and 1.6, P < .001 and P = .03 for medication cost, respectively). SSc is associated with substantial healthcare utilization and direct economic burden. The most costly aspects of SSc are PAH and GIT involvement.

This is a retrospective study. The aim of this study was to access sagittal compensatory mechanism of the cervical spine in thoracic adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (T-AIS) before and after posterior spinal fusion and to identify preoperative or immediate postoperative radiographic parameters that can predict the ultimate cervical sagittal alignment (CSA) after long-term follow-up. A retrospective study was performed on 44 T-AIS patients treated with posterior spinal fusion and with at least 5 years of follow-up. ⋯ For T-AIS patients, CL significantly increased after surgery with the restoration of the global and regional sagittal profile. The sagittal compensatory mechanism of the cervical spine before surgery is different from that after surgery. In these patients, preoperative CL and immediate postoperative T1 slope could be predictors of the ultimate CSA after long-term follow-up.
