Specific demographic factors could predict deceased potential cornea donors: A retrospective study from Beijing Tongren Hospital Eye Bank.
Compared with evident cornea donors (ECDs), deceased potential cornea donors (DPCDs) have no obvious donor identifications to reference, which causes many eligible cornea tissues to be wasted. The demographic characteristics of DPCDs might be different from those of ECDs owing to the following different features: donation consent provided by relatives and willingness to donate before death. Thus, the aim of this study is to reveal the demographic characteristics of DPCDs by comparing DPCDs and ECDs. ⋯ In multivariate regression, age (P = .021, >50 years: OR = 8.14, 95% CI: 1.37-48.41) was the only significant factor influencing relative consent. Similarly, age (P = .02, >50 years: OR = 7.55, 95% CI: 1.21-47.25) was the only factor influencing willingness to donate before death. In conclusion, specific demographic factors could indicate DPCDs and might reveal directions and methods for cornea donation coordination in the future.

Effect of balance training with Pro-kin System on balance in patients with white matter lesions.
Patients with white matter lesions (WMLs) often present with problems of balance. The aim of this study was to verify the effects of combined Pro-kin system and conventional balance training to improve balance ability in WMLs patients. This is a randomized controlled study, and 40 participants were divided into 2 groups: the intervention group (n=18) received Pro-kin system with additional conventional balance training for 20 minutes per session, 5 times a week, for 2 weeks. ⋯ In the control group, BBS and Pro-kin system results significantly improved (P < .05). Changes in all outcomes but the ellipse area with eye closed (P < .05) were significantly higher in the intervention group than in the control group. The combination of Pro-kin system and conventional balance training is a potentially valuable treatment for patients with WMLs.

The medical costs for inpatients with coronary heart disease (CHD) have risen to unprecedented levels, putting tremendous financial pressure on their families and the entire society. The objective of this study was to examine the actual direct medical costs of inpatients with CHD and to analyze the influencing factors of those costs, to provide advice on the prevention and control of high medical costs of patients with CHD. ⋯ The inpatients with CHD in this tier-3 hospital were mostly over 45 years old. The average medical cost of males was much higher than that of females. Our findings suggest that the solution for tremendous hospitalization expenditures should be that more attention is paid to controlling the high expense of medical consumables and that the traditional method of reducing medical expenses by shortening the length of stay is still important in nowadays. Furthermore, the type of medical insurance schemes has different impacts on medical expenses. Reducing or controlling high hospitalization expenditures is a complicated process that needs multifaceted cooperation.

The superior sagittal sinus (SSS) and transverse sinus are the major dural sinuses that receive a considerable amount of venous drainage. The occlusion of them has been suggested to cause intracranial hypertension, hemorrhage, and lead to potentially fatal consequences. ⋯ The favorable clinical outcome after complete occlusion of the SSS and transverse sinus, accompanied by right temporal lobe hemorrhage, SAH has rarely been reported and it might be explained by our timely surgical intervention and development of compensatory cerebral collateral circulation.

Design of a school randomized trial for nudging students towards healthy diet and physical activity to prevent obesity: PAAPAS Nudge study protocol.
To evaluate the effectiveness of nudge activities at school on the students' body mass index (BMI). ⋯ Statistical analyses for each outcome will be conducted through linear mixed models that took into account the missing data and cluster effect of the schools.
