Is there any alternative to standard chest compression techniques in infants? A randomized manikin trial of the new "2-thumb-fist" option.
Pediatric cardiac arrest is a fatal emergent condition that is associated with high mortality, permanent neurological injury, and is a socioeconomic burden at both the individual and national levels. The aim of this study was to test in an infant manikin a new chest compression (CC) technique ("2 thumbs-fist" or nTTT) in comparison with standard 2-finger (TFT) and 2-thumb-encircling hands techniques (TTEHT). ⋯ The new nTTT technique achieved higher SBP and MAP compared to the standard CC techniques in our infant manikin model. nTTT appears to be a suitable alternative or complementary to the TFT and TTEHT.

Effects of exercise on secretion transport, inflammation, and quality of life in patients with noncystic fibrosis bronchiectasis: Protocol for a randomized controlled trial.
Bronchiectasis is characterized by pathological and irreversible bronchial dilatation caused by the inefficient mucus and microorganism clearance and progression of inflammatory processes. The most frequent characteristic is the increase in bronchial mucus production resulting in slower transport and damage to the mucociliary transport. ⋯ This protocol could provide new information about the unclear mechanisms regarding exercise to aid in the removal of secretions.

A prospective, randomized, open label, controlled study investigating the efficiency and safety of 3 different methods of rectus sheath block analgesia following midline laparotomy.
There is a controversy regarding the efficacy of rectus sheath block (RSB). The aim of the present study was to evaluate analgesic efficacy and safety of three different methods of RSB in postoperative pain management after midline laparotomy. ⋯ RSB analgesia with repeated-doses seems to have opioid sparing efficacy, and it may enhance pain relief and patients' satisfaction after midline laparotomy.

Acupuncture is claimed to improve the lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). Currently, no systematic reviews are performed for acupuncture on LUTS in patients with Parkinson's diseases (PD). This review aims to evaluate the current evidence on the efficacy of acupuncture for the management of LUTS in PD. ⋯ Ethical approval will not be required, given that this protocol is for a systematic review. The systematic review will be published in a peer-reviewed journal and disseminated both electronically and in print. The review will be updated to inform and guide healthcare practice and policy.

Economic evaluation of weekends-off antiretroviral therapy for young people in 11 countries.
To analyze the cost effectiveness of short-cycle therapy (SCT), where patients take antiretroviral (ARV) drugs 5 consecutive days a week and have 2 days off, as an alternative to continuous ARV therapy for young people infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and taking efavirenz-based first-line ARV drugs. ⋯ SCT is a cost-effective treatment alternative to continuous therapy for young people infected with HIV in countries where viral load monitoring is available.
