Recently, mechanical thrombectomy with stent retriever has achieved faster and higher rates of recanalization for intracranial major vessel occlusion. However, comparative studies of the most widely used Solitaire and Trevo stents have been rarely published. The authors retrospectively reviewed a total of 200 patients who performed mechanical thrombectomy at our center during 4 years and divided patients into 2 groups: mechanical thrombectomy with Solitaire stent (Group 1: Solitaire) and mechanical thrombectomy with Trevo stent (Group 2: Trevo). ⋯ In multivariate logistic regression analysis, the use of Trevo stent was a predictive for successful recanalization. (odds ratio 1.40, 95% confidence interval 1.250-1.550, P = .028). Our study suggests that the Trevo stent allows higher recanalization rate through the less number of stent passages and shorter procedure time than the Solitaire stent. More randomized control trials are needed to determine which stents are more effective.

Preoperative ANemiA among the elderly undergoing major abdominal surgery (PANAMA) study: Protocol for a single-center observational cohort study of preoperative anemia management and the impact on healthcare outcomes.
Preoperative anemia and old age are independent risk factors for perioperative morbidity and mortality. However, despite the high prevalence of anemia in elderly surgical patients, there is limited understanding of the impact of anemia on postoperative complications and postdischarge quality of life in the elderly. This study aims to investigate how anemia impacts elderly patients undergoing major abdominal surgery in terms of perioperative morbidity, mortality and quality of life for 6 months postoperatively. ⋯ The SingHealth Centralised Institutional Review Board (CIRB Ref: 2017/2640) approved this study and consent will be obtained from all participants. This study is funded by the National Medical Research Council, Singapore (HNIG16Dec003) and the findings will be published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at academic conferences. Deidentified data will be made available from Dryad Repository upon publication of the results.

To present the successful treatment of complex regional pain syndrome type -1 utilizing sympathetic blocks. ⋯ Treatment options are limited and there is lack of high quality research regarding the efficacy of sympathetic blocks in the treatment of complex regional pain syndrome. As presented in this case series, sympathetic blocks maybe very effective in the treatment of complex regional pain syndrome in a subset of patients. Thus, early institution of sympathetic blocks should be considered in complex regional pain syndrome prior to physical therapy and consideration of more invasive pain management interventions.

CRPS after a lumbar surgery has symptoms that are similar to PSSS. However, standard criteria for distinguishing CRPS from PSSS do not exist. We present a case report of a 31-year-old female with CRPS symptoms after lumbar spinal surgery treated by performing SELD. ⋯ CRPS like symptoms can appear after lumbar spinal surgery due to adhesion and inflammation in the epidural space. In such cases, SELD can be considered as diagnostic and therapeutic option.
