Diaphragmatic ultrasonography for predicting ventilator weaning: A meta-analysis.
Weaning failure is common in mechanically ventilated patients. Whether ultrasound can predict weaning outcome remains controversial. This meta-analysis was performed to assess the accuracy of diaphragmatic ultrasonography for predicting reintubation within 48 hours of extubation. ⋯ Diaphragmatic ultrasonography is a promising tool for predicting reintubation within 48 hours of extubation. However, due to heterogeneities among the included studies, large-scale studies are warranted to confirm our findings.

Curative efficacy and safety of traditional Chinese medicine xuebijing injections combined with ulinastatin for treating sepsis in the Chinese population: A meta-analysis.
Sepsis is a clinically critical disease. However, it is still controversial whether the combined use of traditional Chinese medicine Xuebijing injections (XBJI) and western medicine can enhance curative efficacy and ensure safety compared with western medicine alone. Thus, this research consisted of a systematic review of the curative efficacy and safety of traditional Chinese medicine XBJI combined with ulinastatin for treating sepsis in the Chinese population. ⋯ On the basis of the common basic therapeutic regimen, the combined use of traditional Chinese medicine XBJI and ulinastatin was compared with the use of ulinastatin alone for treating sepsis in the Chinese population. It was found that the number of adverse events of combination therapy is not significantly increased, and its clinical safety is well within the permitted range. However, considering the limitations of this conclusion due to the low-quality articles included in the present research, it is necessary to conduct high-quality randomized controlled trials.

The prognostic value of phospholipase A2 receptor autoantibodies on spontaneous remission for patients with idiopathic membranous nephropathy: A meta-analysis.
The presence of antibodies against phospholipase A2 receptor (PLA2R-Abs) in serum at diagnosis is reported to be related to the rate of spontaneous remission in patients with idiopathic membranous nephropathy (IMN); however, there is still lack of enough samples to illustrate this problem. Here, we conducted a comprehensive meta-analysis to investigate the prognostic value of PLA2R-Abs on spontaneous remission for IMN patients in the absence of immunosuppressive therapy. ⋯ In PLA2R-Abs seronegative patients, the spontaneous remission rate is higher than that of PLA2R-Abs seropositive patients during symptomatic treatment. Therefore, in order to avoid malignant events caused by immunosuppressive therapy, maybe it is more beneficial to adopt conservative treatment for PLA2R-Abs seronegative patients at initial treatment.

Effects of dry needling in an exercise program for older adults with knee osteoarthritis: A pilot clinical trial.
Few studies have investigated the dry needling (DN) approach on knee osteoarthritis (KO) patients. The study's aim was to evaluate the short-term efficacy of adding DN to a therapeutic exercise protocol in the treatment of KO in older adults. ⋯ Despite the pain intensity and disability clinically relevant improvement for both DN and Sham-DN combined with exercise, 6 sessions of DN added to a therapeutic exercise program for older adults with KO did not seem to improve pain intensity and functionality.
