Review Meta Analysis
The efficacy and safety of once-weekly DPP-4 inhibitor omarigliptin in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus: A systemic review and meta-analysis.
The efficacy and safety of once-weekly dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitor (DPP-4i) omarigliptin as monotherapy or add on to other antihyperglycemic agents (AHAs) in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is unclear. ⋯ This review revealed that omarigliptin had a favorable efficacy and safety as monotherapy or add on to other AHAs in treating T2DM patients. It is a superior choice for T2DM patients who have a poor adherence to daily AHAs.

Case Reports
Senile Lemierre syndrome complicated with descending necrotizing mediastinitis: A case report.
Senile patients with LS complicated with DNM are rarely seen in clinical practice, and extensive cervical incision and drainage plus administration of effective antibiotics are the basis for treatment. Currently, the treatment controversy mainly has focused on whether mediastinal incision and drainage is necessary for patients with type I DNM, and whether anticoagulation therapy is required for jugular venous emboli and distant metastatic emboli induced by LS. ⋯ Concomitant use of anticoagulants on the basis of repeated cervical incision and drainage + administration of effective antibiotics can obtain excellent therapeutic efficacy in the treatment of patient with LS complicated with type I DNM.

This retrospective study aimed to investigate the effect and safety of Yiqibushenhuoxue decoction (YQBSHXD) for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). This study involved 120 cases of patients with COPD. These cases were assigned to an intervention group and a control group equally, 60 subjects each group. ⋯ However, YQBSHXD may help to alleviate the severity of dyspnea on exertion, as measured by 6MWD (P = .03), and to improve the quality of life, as assessed by the SGRQ (P < .01). Additionally, no significant differences in AEs were detected between the 2 groups. The results of this study showed that YQBSHXD may help to manage COPD after 12-week treatment, although the lung function has not been improved.

Apoptosis and inflammation have been shown to play an important role in the mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) infection. When macrophages undergo apoptosis and polarization, gap junctions (GJs) may be needed to provide conditions for their functions. Connexin 43 (Cx43) and connexin 37 (Cx37) are the main connexins in macrophages that participate in the formation of GJ channels. ⋯ The results confirm that H37Rv infection can obviously induce host macrophage Cx43 expression and enhance GJIC, which may implicated in host macrophage inflammatory reaction, to regulate the release of inflammatory factors and/or initiate apoptosis to activate host immune defense response.

Although the association of the psychological problems and androgenetic alopecia (AGA) gained the increasing attention, the psychosocial state in college students with AGA remains unknown. We recruited a total number of 355 college students with AGA from 18 universities in Southern China for interview. The Symptom Checklist-90-R (SCL-90-R) survey was used to assess the psychological state of these students. ⋯ Moreover, regarding the impact of specialty, scores for the interpersonal sensitivity, depression, and phobic anxiety in medical students and art students with AGA were significantly higher than other professions. In addition, obsessive-compulsive and GSI in art students with AGA were significantly higher compared with other professions. These findings suggested that the therapeutic approach for the psychological problems should be considered in the tailored treatment for AGA in the college students.
