Clinical studies have shown that total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA) with propofol is associated with better postoperative pain control compared with inhalational anesthesia, while other studies have not shown any benefit. The analgesic effect of TIVA with propofol in colorectal surgery has not been studied. The aim of this study is to evaluate the postoperative analgesic effects of TIVA with propofol versus inhalational sevoflurane in colorectal surgery. ⋯ Patients receiving TIVA with propofol had significantly reduced total morphine consumption (P < .001), and daily morphine consumption on postoperative days 1 (P = .031), 2 (P = .002), and 3 (P = .031) compared with those receiving sevoflurane. TIVA with propofol was not associated with improved postoperative analgesia, better patient satisfaction, or reduced side effects. It may reduce postoperative opioid consumption after colorectal surgery.

Premature ejaculation is a common sexual dysfunction disease in adult males. It can be divided into primary and secondary premature ejaculation. Acupuncture is widely used in the treatment of premature ejaculation in China. There are many clinical trials confirmed that acupuncture can prolong the ejaculation latency in the vagina. We aim to use a meta-analysis to evaluate the efficacy and safety of acupuncture for premature ejaculation. ⋯ PROSPERO CRD42018092783.

Thrombocytopenia caused by linezolid (LZD) is common, with a reported prevalence as high as 11.8%. Platelets typically reach normal levels 7 days after LZD withdrawal. However, recurrent profound thrombocytopenia due to LZD usage and a persistent profound drop in platelet count after LZD withdrawal have not been reported. ⋯ Recurrent profound thrombocytopenia can happen after several doses of LZD rechallenging. Therefore, reuse of LZD should be avoided after recovery from severe thrombocytopenia due to LZD.

Epidemiology of lower urinary tract symptoms in a cross-sectional, population-based study: The status in China.
Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) are reported to affect over half of all adults, and they are associated with significantly impaired quality of life (QOL). We performed a population-based study to evaluate the overall prevalence and impact of LUTS including overactive bladder (OAB) in adults aged ≥40 years in China. Adults aged ≥40 years were eligible to participate in this internet-based survey, provided that they had the ability to access the internet, to use a computer and to read the local language. ⋯ LUTS are associated with impaired QOL and mental health, but fewer than half of individuals in China with LUTS seek healthcare for their symptoms. There is therefore a need to improve awareness and treatment of the condition. ClinicalTrials.gov identifier: NCT02618421.

Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) and a coexisting left brachiocephalic artery originating from the descending aorta is an extremely rare anomaly of unknown etiology. ⋯ PDA coexisting with left brachiocephalic artery originating from the descending aorta is a very rare anomaly. When this variety of PDA is closed, it is important to avoid affecting the blood flow in the left brachiocephalic trunk. For this reason, closure on the side of the pulmonary artery may be the best solution.
