Observational Study
A retrospective cohort study of risk factors and pregnancy outcomes in 14,014 Chinese pregnant women.
This study aims to investigate major complications or symptoms of pregnant women, causes of maternal near-miss, and issues that are relevant to severe maternal disease. A retrospective analysis was performed in the "maternal individual investigation form," which included all critical maternity patients admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University from January 1, 2012 to September 31, 2015. A total of 14,014 pregnant patients who delivered at 28 to 42 weeks of gestation were included. ⋯ Delivery times, gestational weeks, and informal pregnancy examinations should be considered in maternal near miss patients. Moreover, hypertensive disorders during pregnancy, postpartum hemorrhage, anemia, thrombocytopenia, hepatopathy, and cardiopathy were the principal causes of maternal near miss. Therefore, the monitoring of these principal causes of severe maternity near miss is important for reducing the maternal morbidity and mortality.

Seated-Baduanjin as adjuvant rehabilitation treatment in a patient with Dysfunctional ventilatory weaning response(DVWR) is extremely rare, and we report a case of a patient's rehabilitation exercise who suffered from DVWR. ⋯ In this case report, the Seated-Baduanjin showed a remarkable therapeutic effect on a patient and might be an adjuvant treatment for DVWR.

We report a rare, acute neurological deterioration after cervical laminoplasty due to post-decompression spinal cord edema associated with ankylosing spondylitis in a 52-year old male patient. The patient was diagnosed with cervical spondylotic myelopathy due to ossification of the posterior longitudinal ligament which was complicated by ankylosing spondylitis. A cervical laminoplasty was performed, adversely resulting in paraparesis and loss of tactile sense. An emergency CT scan following the first laminoplasty revealed that the spinal cord compression due to spinal cord swelling and limited-expansion in cervical canal space. The abnormal pathological state of ankylosing spondylitis may have aggravated spinal cord re-perfusion and increased edema after decompression. ⋯ Abnormal spinal cord immune inflammatory reaction associated with ankylosing spondylitis and limited decompression may lead to acute neurological deterioration. The potential overactive inflammatory response following surgery in the patients with autoimmune rheumatoid disease should be carefully considered in spinal surgery. Timely diagnosis and treatment may benefit these patients.

Recurrent symblepharon is very difficult to cure. Techniques applied in symblepharon with no recurrence or low recurrent rate is rare and vital. ⋯ Reversed split-thickness skin graft is much less soft compared to other materials to treat symblepharon and can be used to reconstruct conjunctival sac with no or little recurrence.

Lung cancer is one of the most important diseases threatening human health, and targeted therapy has become the main research direction. This work, therefore, aimed to develop cyclic arginine-glycine-aspartic (RGD) and octa-arginine (R8) peptide-modified ergosterol (ERG)-combined cisplatin (diamminedichloridoplatinum(II) [DDP]) liposomes (LIP) as a drug delivery system. ⋯ The results showed that LIP uptake by A549 cells was mainly by the clathrin-mediated endocytosis pathway (chlorpromazine). The results also suggest that RGD/R8-DDP/ERG-LIP might be a promising drug delivery system to improve antilung cancer drug effect and tumor-targeting in vitro.
