To compare the efficacy and safety of the combined application of both drain-clamping and tranexamic acid (TXA) versus the single use of either application in patients with total-knee arthroplasty (TKA). ⋯ Combined application of both drain-clamping and TXA was associated with significant reductions in blood loss in drainage, total blood loss, hemoglobin decline, and the need for transfusion. However, high-quality, well-designed RCTs with long-term follow-up are still required.

Dietary fiber intake and risks of proximal and distal colon cancers: A meta-analysis.
The purpose of this study was to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies investigating the relationship between dietary fiber intake and subsite-specific colon cancer. The PubMed database was searched to identify relevant cohort studies published from inception to August 2016 in order to examine individually the association between dietary fiber intake and the risk of proximal colon cancer (PCC), and that between dietary fiber intake and the risk of distal colon cancer (DCC). We searched the reference lists of the studies included in our analysis as well as those listed in the published meta-analyses. ⋯ Dietary fiber intake was inversely associated with DCC for both men and women. In addition, dietary fiber intake appeared to be inversely associated with PCC only in European countries, whereas this association was observed for DCC in both European countries and the United States. Our findings reveal that dietary fiber intake is associated inversely with the risk of both PCC and DCCs.

Effects of platelet-rich plasma in the treatment of plantar fasciitis: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
Plantar fasciitis is a common cause of heel pain, which often results in significant morbidity. There have been several treatment options that are used for plantar fasciitis, including nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, orthoses, physical therapy, and steroid injections. ⋯ PRP was as effective as other treatments in reducing pain and improving function in patients with plantar fasciitis. Subgroup analysis indicated that PRP had better effect than steroid in AOFAS Score and its effect was durable in a long term. However, considering the potential limitations in this study, more large-scale RCTs are needed to confirm the current findings.

Randomized Controlled Trial
Detection of seizure patterns with multichannel amplitude-integrated EEG and the color density spectral array in the adult neurology intensive care unit.
This study's purpose was to determine the sensitivity, false-positive and false-negative of seizure detection in adult intensive care by amplitude-integrated electroencephalography (aEEG) and color density spectral array (CDSA).30 continuous electroencephalogram (EEG) recordings were randomly performed in 3 digital EEG-recording machines, 3 specialized neurophysiologists participated in this study, underwent 4 hours of training of CDSA and aEEG, marked any epochs suspected to be seizures without access to the raw EEG. The results will be compared and analyzed with continuous EEG reading to consider sensitivity, positive or negative rate. ⋯ The time spent in identification of seizures by CDSA and aEEG was much time-saving than continuous EEG-reading. In this study, both CDSA and aEEG have a higher sensitivity but lower false-positive or missed rate in the interpretation of seizure identification in adult NICU.

Shen-Ling-Bai-Zhu-San for ulcerative colitis: Protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) at the colonic mucosa and submucosa. Shen-Ling-Bai-Zhu-San (SLBZS) is one of the most common formulations of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for the treatment of UC. However, its effects and safety remain uncertain. This protocol is described for a systematic review to investigate the beneficial effects and safety of SLBZS for UC. ⋯ PROSPERO CRD 42018100477.
