Combination therapy: Meta-analysis of the effects of TACE and cryoablation on hepatocellular carcinoma.
This study systematically reviews the data for transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) alone or combined TACE and cryoablation therapy of hepatocellular carcinoma, aiming to provide clinical choice references for treatment of cancer. ⋯ Compared with TACE only used to treat cancer, combination therapy had the best effect profile in general, and it had better survival in HCC when taking an integrated approach. The prognosis of treatments based on combination therapy is modulated by cryoablation.

Quadratus lumborum block versus transversus abdominis plane block for postoperative pain management after laparoscopic colorectal surgery: A randomized controlled trial.
This study aimed to compare the quadratus lumborum block (QLB) method with transversus abdominis plane block (TAPB) for postoperative pain management in patients undergoing laparoscopic colorectal surgery. ⋯ The QLB is a more effective postoperative analgesia as it reduces sufentanil consumption compared to TAPB in patients undergoing laparoscopic colorectal surgery.

The role of hydroxyurea to prevent silent stroke in sickle cell disease: Systematic review and meta-analysis.
Chronic blood transfusions are standard of care for stroke prevention in sickle cell disease but is not cost effective and not without risks. Hydroxyurea has emerged as an option in the prevention of silent stroke in sickle cell disease. ⋯ Our findings suggest that hydroxyurea is safe and may prevent silent stroke and stroke in sickle cell disease. More high-quality studies including RCTs are needed.

Efficacy and safety of tripterygium glycosides for Graves ophthalmopathy: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Graves ophthalmopathy (GO) is one of the remaining enigmas in thyroidology. Glucocorticoids (GCs) are strongly recommended but their effects are not completely satisfactory and adverse reactions can occur. Tripterygium glycosides (TG) is a promising component extracted from Tripterygium wilfordii Hook F (TwHF), and numerous patients with GO have benefited from it. However, its practical application value is still unclear. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to investigate the efficacy and safety of TG for patients with GO. ⋯ By retrieving the PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, CNKI, VIP, CBM, and WanFang Databases, the open published randomized controlled trials (RCTs) related to TG in the treatment of GO were collected. And inclusion and exclusion criteria were established. The Cochrane bias risk assessment tool conducts the evaluation of included studies, and meta-analysis was performed using Revman 5.3 software.

Correlation between FAS single nucleotide polymorphisms and breast carcinoma susceptibility in Asia.
FAS cell surface death receptor (FAS) gene has 2 common single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in its promoter, FAS-1377G > A (rs2234767) and FAS-670A > G (rs1800682). Several studies have investigated the role of these 2 polymorphisms in etiology of breast cancer in Asian population while the outcomes are inconsistent. To derive a more precise assessment of the association between breast cancer susceptibility with FAS gene promoter SNPs, a meta-analysis of published studies was performed. ⋯ These results indicated that FAS-1377G/A polymorphism may contribute to the increased breast cancer susceptibility and could be a promising target for cancer risk prediction. Further studies are needed to determine if the FAS gene confers a risk of breast cancer in other ethnic groups, such as Africans and Latin Americans.
