Prostate cancer (PCa) is a frequently diagnosed malignant solid tumor in men. The etiology of PCa has been attributed to both environmental and genetic factors. In recent years, many studies have reported that miRNA gene single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) influence the susceptibility to several diseases such as cancer. ⋯ We found that miR-23a gene polymorphism rs3745453 carrying CC homozygotes had a 4.16-fold increased risk (95% CI = 1.30-13.25) than those carrying the TT/CT genotypes (P = .02), and the C allele displayed a higher prevalence of PCa than the T allele (OR = 1.68, 95% CI = 1.16-2.45, P = .01). Moreover, miR-23a showed that the homozygous carriers of the C-variant significantly increased the risk of survival rate as compared to the carriers of the TT/CT genotype (OR = 9.67, 95% CI = 2.83-33.09, P = .001). The rs3745453 polymorphism was potentially associated with PCa in the Chinese Han population and had an interactive relationship with the environmental factors.

Modified double-opposing Z-plasty for patients with Veau I cleft palate: Are lateral relaxing incisions necessary?
Low fistula rate and a satisfactory speech outcome were previously reported by adopting a modified Furlow palatoplasty using small double-opposing Z-plasty (DOZ). The purposes of this study were to (1) describe the technical standardization of further modification of this small DOZ using the medial incision (MIDOZ) approach for Veau I cleft repair; (2) assess the early postoperative outcomes of a single surgeon's experience using this technique; and (3) evaluate the temporal association of this standardization with the necessity of lateral relaxing incisions. A prospective study (n = 24) was performed consecutively to non-syndromic patients with Veau I cleft palate who underwent MIDOZ approach. ⋯ No postoperative complications, such as bleeding, flap necrosis, dehiscence or fistula were observed. The prospective group had a significantly (all P < .05) higher rate of hamulus fractures (n = 48, 100%) and a lower rate of lateral relaxing incisions (n = 1, 2%) than the retrospective group (n = 16, 32%; n = 26, 52%). This technical standardization for performing palatoplasty using MIDOZ approach provided adequate Veau I cleft palate closure, without fistula formation, and with a low need of lateral relaxing incisions.

T helper 17 (Th17) cells are related to the progression of aortic dissection. This study aimed to determine whether circulating Th17 levels are associated with the prognosis of acute Stanford type B aortic dissection (STBAD) after thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR). A cohort study was performed and STBAD patients (n = 140) received TEVAR were enrolled, the circulating Th17 levels were measured and the patients were divided into low and high Th17 groups, and 36 months of follow-up was performed. ⋯ During follow-up, the true lumen of the proximal thoracic aorta at the level of the celiac trunk in both the low and high Th17 groups continuously enlarged and was more pronounced in the low Th17 group. Circulating Th17 cells were related to cardiac and aortic remodeling and prognosis during STBAD after TEVAR. Anti-inflammatory therapy may be useful for STBAD patients who have undergone TEVAR.

The growing population of young cancer survivors and a trend toward postponing pregnancy until later years in life are leading to a deeper attention towards understanding treatment-induced sequelae, and, in particular, the effects of cancer and/or treatment on fertility. Nowadays, the infertility risks potentially associated with molecular targeted therapies are not established, and clinical reports are sparse. Moreover, the increasing use of molecular targeted drugs in the adjuvant setting and in diseases with better prognosis makes preservation of fertility a major topic in current research. ⋯ This is the first case report that strongly suggests a correlation between pazopanib exposure and development of ovarian insufficiency. Our case tantalizes to inspire additional preclinical and clinical research on the true incidence, possible dose dependence, and reversibility of pazopanib (and other TKIs) -induced ovarian failure.

Chlorpheniramine-induced anaphylaxis: Two case reports and a retrospective review of pharmacovigilance database.
Anaphylaxis is a serious allergic reaction which could be life-threatening. To date, it could be diagnosed by causality between clinical manifestations and triggers. But it is not always easy to find out the clue. Chlorpheniramine maleate (peniramin) is known to safe and it is an antihistamine commonly used to treat almost the whole allergic disease, including urticaria and allergic rhinitis. We recently experienced 2 cases of chlorpheniramine induced anaphylaxis. To document suspected cases of chlorpheniramine-induced adverse reactions, we analyzed a database spontaneously reported adverse drug reactions in the Ajou Regional Pharmacovigilance Center from 2011 to 2017. ⋯ Physicians should be aware chlorpheniramine could be a cause for allergic reaction. In addition, we suggest that serum tryptase level, skin prick test, and intradermal test could be considered as a supplementary test for diagnosing chlorpheniramine anaphylaxis and cross-reactivity should also be considered.
