The Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome (KTS) is a rare congenital disorder. The obstetric course of women with KTS varies. Complications include bleeding, disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), thromboembolic events, etc. PATIENT CONCERNS:: Here, we report a case of late puerperal hemorrhage of a Chinese puerpera with KTS. The repeating severe hemorrhage, the DIC, and the Kasabach-Merrit syndrome made the treatment more difficult. ⋯ An interdisciplinary cooperation of obstetrician, anesthesiologist, vascular surgeon, and intensive care physician is highly recommended. Prophylactic anticoagulation is generally advised in the gestational and postpartum period.

Molecular mechanism underlying the autosomal recessive non-syndromic hearing loss (ARNSHL) is still plausible. Pathogenic mutations of the gap junction beta 2 protein (GJB2) are reported to be the primary causes of ARNSHL. ⋯ In this family, we discovered 2 heterozygous carriers of c.113T>C variation in the GJB2 gene. The propositus, who had profound hearing loss, had inherited the c.113T>C variation from his normal mother and the c.235delC from his father.

The incidence of double aneurysms on the ophthalmic segment of the internal carotid artery (ICA) is very rare. Nevertheless, delayed rupture of a parent artery instead of the aneurysmal sac following pipeline embolization device (PLED) is unusual. ⋯ Manipulation of the tortuous parent artery resulted in a focal traumatic weakness in the artery and subsequently a delay tear. We are of the view that, endovascular surgeons should be on the lookout for this complication following flow deviation treatment modalities.

Thyroid disorders are associated with blood glucose abnormalities. For rendering the patients euthyroid, routine screening and care are essential. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the association between continuity of care (COC) and type 2 diabetes onset among patients with thyroid disorders. ⋯ Our subgroup analysis showed that female patients and those 20 to 34 years of age showed a significant association between COC and onset of type 2 diabetes. Patients with thyroid disorders with low COC showed an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Therefore, efforts to enhance COC among patients with thyroid disorders needs to be encouraged.

The aim of this study was to investigate possible associations of nutrient intake on glaucoma in subjects of Japanese descent living in Los Angeles, CA. In this cross-sectional study, 581 Japanese American participants in Los Angeles underwent an interview, fundus photography, comprehensive physical, and blood examinations, along with determining the body mass index status and any confounding factors. CDSketch was used to measure the cup-disc ratio and rim width of each fundus in the retinal photographs. ⋯ A total of 61 of 581 participants were diagnosed with glaucoma in this study. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that a high intake of iron (odds ratio [OR]: 1.303, P = .004), low intake of vitamin A (OR: 0.365, P = .019), and vegetable fat (OR: 0.957, P = .004) were associated with an increased risk of glaucoma. Current findings showed that high iron intake and low vitamin A and vegetable fat intake appeared to be associated with an increased risk of glaucoma in subjects of Japanese descent living in the Los Angeles populations.
