Previous meta-analyses assessing anesthetic techniques in adult patients undergoing hip fractures surgery are available. However, whether the anesthetic technique is associated with risk of mortality and complications in geriatric patients with hip fractures remains unclear. This study was conducted to assess postoperative outcomes of anesthesia technique in geriatric patients undergoing hip fracture surgery. ⋯ CRD42018093582.

Comparison of the effectiveness and outcome of microendoscopic and open discectomy in patients suffering from lumbar disc herniation.
The purpose of our study is to compare the outcomes and effectiveness of MED vs OLD for lumbar disc herniation. ⋯ The standard surgical treatment of lumbar disc herniation has been open discectomy but there has been a trend towards minimally invasive procedures. MED for lumbar spine disc herniation is a well-known but developing field, which is increasingly spreading in the last few years. The success rate of MED is about approximately 90%. Both methods are equally effective in relieving radicular pain. MED was superior in terms of total hospital stay, morbidity, and earlier return to work and anesthetic exposure, blood loss, intra-op time comparing to OLD. MED is a safe and effective alternative to conventional OLD for patients with lumbar disc herniation.

Sudden cardiac death in the Kazakh and Han peoples of Xinjiang, China: A comparative cross-sectional study.
Sudden cardiac death (SCD) is a major cause of mortality in China. This study collected reference data for future programs of prevention of SCD among the ethnic Kazakh and Han populations in Xinjiang, China. From January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2015, 2 monitoring locations in northern Xinjiang China were utilized. ⋯ The multivariate analysis of populations with SCD showed that, among the patients with coronary heart disease, the Kazakh were more likely to have SCD than the Han (odds ratio: 3.58, confidence interval: 1.18-10.95). Among the elderly, the incidence of SCD was much higher in the Kazakh population than in the Han population. Basic medical services and health education should be strengthened in the Kazakh pastoral areas.

Combination therapy: Meta-analysis of the effects of TACE and cryoablation on hepatocellular carcinoma.
This study systematically reviews the data for transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) alone or combined TACE and cryoablation therapy of hepatocellular carcinoma, aiming to provide clinical choice references for treatment of cancer. ⋯ Compared with TACE only used to treat cancer, combination therapy had the best effect profile in general, and it had better survival in HCC when taking an integrated approach. The prognosis of treatments based on combination therapy is modulated by cryoablation.

Quadratus lumborum block versus transversus abdominis plane block for postoperative pain management after laparoscopic colorectal surgery: A randomized controlled trial.
This study aimed to compare the quadratus lumborum block (QLB) method with transversus abdominis plane block (TAPB) for postoperative pain management in patients undergoing laparoscopic colorectal surgery. ⋯ The QLB is a more effective postoperative analgesia as it reduces sufentanil consumption compared to TAPB in patients undergoing laparoscopic colorectal surgery.
