Meta Analysis Comparative Study
Efficacy and safety of adjunctive corticosteroids therapy for patients with severe community-acquired pneumonia: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
The systemic use of corticosteroids for patients in severe community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) remains disputed in clinical practice. We undertook a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the efficacy and safety of corticosteroids in patients with severe CAP. ⋯ Overall, adjunctive systemic corticosteroids therapy was effective and safe for patients with severe CAP. In addition, the effects of mortality may differ according to the type of corticosteroids.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study
A multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial evaluating the efficacy and safety of Huangqi Guizhi Wuwutang granule in patients with rheumatoid arthritis.
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by swelling, pain, and synovial damage. Effective methods lack in the treatment of RA. A traditional prescription in use for thousands of years in China, Huangqi Guizhi Wuwutang granule (HGWG) is still chosen to relieve pain and prevent joint malformation in RA patients. However, no evidence-based medical research has been organized to assess the effectiveness and safety of HGWG for RA. ⋯ The findings of this research will elucidate the efficacy and safety of HGWG and provide an alternative treatment for RA. In addition, our data will benefit the clinical decision-making on active RA and possibly be incorporated into future guidelines.

Intrathecal dexmedetomidine can decrease the 95% effective dose of bupivacaine in spinal anesthesia for cesarean section: A prospective, double-blinded, randomized study.
Dexmedetomidine (Dex), as an adjuvant, has been reported to prolong the duration of spinal analgesia when adding to local anesthetic. We hypothesized that Dex could enhance the efficiency of intrathecal bupivacaine for spinal anesthesia in cesarean section. The aim of his study is to test our hypothesis that 5 μg Dex could enhance the efficiency of intrathecal bupivacaine and reduce the dose requirement of spinal bupivacaine for patients undergoing cesarean section. ⋯ Intrathecal 5 μg Dex enhances the efficacy of spinal bupivacaine by 24% in patients undergoing cesarean section with spinal anesthesia. No additional side effect was observed by adding spinal Dex.

Neck pain is a common discomfort or more intense forms of pain in the cervical region. Neck pain has a large impact on individuals and their families, communities, healthcare systems, and businesses throughout the world. Therapeutic strategies are widely used for patients with neck pain in clinical practice, but the effectiveness of each therapeutic strategy is still unclear. The aim of this study is to assess the efficacy and safety of therapeutic strategies for neck pain. ⋯ PROSPERO (CRD42019102385).

Prophylactic anticoagulant therapy is recommended to reduce the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) after total hip or knee arthroplasty, and has become the standard of care. Rivaroxaban is a novel oral medication that directly inhibits factor Xa for the prevention and treatment of thromboembolic conditions. ⋯ This is the first systematic review of the literature providing incidence of efficacy and safety outcomes for thromboprophylaxis in THA and TKA patients. Moreover, this meta-analysis showed that rivaroxaban had more superior effect in THA patients.
