Most of the recent studies have used fixed tube current while few investigators use automatic current selection (ACS) with iterative reconstruction (IR) techniques to reduce effective dose (ED) to < 1 mSv in low-dose chest computed tomography (LDCCT). We investigated whether image quality of lungs as produced by a fixed tube current (FTC) of 35 mAs can be maintained with ED < 1 mSv produced by ACS with IR techniques in LDCCT. A total of 32 participants were included. ⋯ However, noise level, SNR, and CNR were not significantly different between Groups A and B, indicating the image quality was similar between two groups, or our setting parameters for DoseRight ACS with IR technique can achieve the image quality as good as obtained on the FTC 35 mAs with IR techniques. Our results suggest that the DoseRight ACS with IR technique reduces ED to lower than 1 mSv (averagely 0.71 mSv) yet maintains an image quality as good as produced by FTC 35 mAs with IR technique in normal BMI persons. The ACS setup thus is more preferable than the FTC to achieve the ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) principle.

Evidence showed that reoffending habits are increasing among offenders with violent sexual behaviors. Given the recidivism rates, a psychotherapeutic intervention becomes imperative. This study examined the efficacy of prison-based cognitive behavioral rehabilitation intervention (PCBRI) on violent sexual behaviors among sex offenders in Nigerian prisons. ⋯ This study concluded that PCBRI approach is a type of psychotherapy that reduces violent sexual behaviors among sex offenders in Southeast Nigeria.

To estimate the BRAFV600E mutation frequency in Chinese patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC), and the diagnostic value of BRAFV600E mutation status in thyroid nodules with indeterminate TBSRTC categories. A total of 4875 consecutive samples for thyroid ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) and BRAF mutation analysis were collected from patients at Jiangsu Province Hospital on Integration of Chinese and Western Medicine. Among all the cases, 314 underwent thyroidectomy. ⋯ The true BRAF mutation rate of Chinese PTC patients was 91.29%. Chinese patients with PTC have a higher frequency of BRAF mutation. The BRAF mutation testing affords a high diagnostic value in thyroid nodules with indeterminate cytology.

Reactive lymphoid hyperplasia (RLH) of the liver is an uncommon benign lesion. It is usually difficult to differentiate from hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), peripheral-type cholangiocellular carcinoma (CCC), combined HCC-CCC, and liver metastases. On account of its rarity and controversial issues, we report a case report and review the literature to discuss its clinical features, treatments, radiological, and immunohistochemical characteristics. ⋯ Although RLH of the liver is rare, it is necessary to be considered in a liver lesion, especially in female patients. This case report may advance the understanding of RLH of the liver and reduce the number of mistakenly diagnosed patients.

The borderline form of empty follicle syndrome (EFS) is a phenomenon where only a few mature or immature oocytes are retrieved despite adequate response to controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (COH). It is a rare phenomenon with an unclear underlying mechanism, and there is currently no effective treatment. ⋯ Oocyte maturation and ovulation are time-dependent processes, and that different patients require different lengths/intervals of time for treatment. Therefore, the borderline form of EFS, in general, may be treatable, and our novel trigger method provides a new treatment option for such patients in the future.
