The presence of significant pain and swelling during the acute stage following total knee arthroplasty (TKA) may limit the patients' ability to cooperate in intensive physiotherapy interventions. Low-intensity pulsed ultrasound is one of the modalities that can be used for acute pain and swelling management. However, only one study investigated the effect of this modality in patients with TKA. There is limited documentation of the effects of combining low-intensity pulsed ultrasound in TKA rehabilitation in the recovery of physical impairments and how these influence the recovery of function after TKA. Therefore, this study is proposed with the aim to evaluate the effects of low-intensity pulsed ultrasound as an adjunct to conventional physiotherapy on the recovery of physical impairments, functional performance and quality of life after TKA surgery. ⋯ This study will fill the gaps in knowledge relating the benefits of including low-intensity pulsed ultrasound into conventional physiotherapy for patients with TKA.

Gastric glomus tumor (GGT) is a rare gastrointestinal tumor and its preoperative imaging features are significant to make a correct diagnosis, while the assessment of the pathological and immunohistochemical characteristics of the specimen are the main methods used for its diagnosis. This study introduces the clinical uniqueness, endoscopic ultrasonography, radiology, histology and immunohistochemistry results of a patient with GGT to discuss the imaging and clinico-pathological features, diagnosis and differential diagnosis of GGT. ⋯ Most of the GGTs are benign lesions, surgical resection is the preferred treatment and they result in a good prognosis. However, malignant GGT should be treated as soon as possible because of its metastatic potential and recurrence. Adjuvant radiotherapy or chemotherapy might be useful after operation.

Interleukin 12 (IL-12) and interleukin 12 receptor (IL12R), key inflammatory cytokines in the immune system, participate in bridging the innate immunity and adaptive immunity. No previous work has reported the role of IL-12 and IL12R in high-risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV) susceptibility. The purpose of this study was to investigate the association of IL-12, IL12R polymorphisms, and serum IL-12 levels with hrHPV susceptibility in rural women from Luohe, Henan, China. ⋯ Our data demonstrates that low serum IL-12 levels may be associated with hrHPV susceptibility but are not associated with IL-12 gene polymorphisms; furthermore, IL-12 and IL12R gene polymorphisms may not contribute susceptibility to hrHPV in rural women from Luohe, Henan, China.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is a crucial health problem and caused substantial malignancy diseases among female worldwide. We aim to investigate the distribution of HPV subtype and the status of cervical cancer and precancerous lesions caused by HPV infection in North China Plain population. A total of 61,870 samples of outpatients and inpatients from January 2015 to May 2017 at the Affiliated Hospital of Jining Medical University were collected. ⋯ As the degree of cervical lesions worsened gradually, the rate of high-risk HPV infection increased, such as 24.3% (322/1324) in the Cervicitis, 31.30% (560/1785) in the CINI, 54.1% (568/1050) in the CINII, 80.1% (693/865) in the CIN III, and 99.5% (428/430) in the cervical cancer group. These findings were significantly different from the 9.7% (155/1555) observed in the normal medical examination group (P < .05). This is the first study to demonstrate the characteristics of HPV and the association with cervical lesions in North China Plain population.

Caregivers encounter serious and substantial challenges in managing hypertension in patients with subclinical or clinical borderline personality disorder (BPD). These challenges include therapeutic conflicts resulting from harmful drug-drug, and drug-disease interactions. Current guidelines provide no recommendations for concurrent psychotropic and antihypertensive treatment of hypertensive BPD patients who are at even greater cardiovascular risk. ⋯ Increased prevalence of hypertension in BPD patients, and therapeutic conflicts of psychotropic agents strongly suggest careful evaluation of treatment strategies in this patient group. However, no studies or guidelines recommend specific therapies or strategies to resolve therapeutic conflicts in patients with hypertension and BPD. This evidence gap needs attention in this population at high risk for cardiovascular disease.
